Who Wants To Destroy An Alien? [Sci-fi | Dystopian | Cyberpunk | RPG/Sim]

Who Wants To Destroy An Alien?
Demo available on Steam!

Synopsis

Who Wants To Destroy An Alien (WWTDAA) is a single-player game, and unique concept that merges JRPG gameplay with Battle Royale and some elements of Sim games. Picture it as a boardgame of sorts. Every time the player moves on the Galaxy map, all of the other characters will also move.

Quests and events can be done by the player as well as the A.I., meaning that many quests won't be available through a single playthrough.

The world is heavily inspired by the movie Idiocracy, and is intended to be Dystopian / Cyberpunk.
So, please be aware that the game will be intended for mature audiences!

User discretion is advised.

Extra Notes

At this stage of development, we would love feedback on the official demo which was released July 1st, 2019.
We have an interesting twist for the final game arena (the last zone, where the final showdown takes place).
However, we'd love to hear your thoughts on where we could take this concept!

Here are some of the questions we have:

What sort of game mechanics would you like to see?
What sort of quests or events would you like to see?
Any ideas on how we can make the game more interesting?

Thanks in advance for checking out our game!
More info to come as the development continues. :)

This intro says a lot about mechanics but nothing about the narrative, and none of the screenshots seem to feature much in the way of text. Is this really a story-based game?

There's no fixed storyline per se. There are events and quests with dialogue, though.

It's an RPG/Sim game in the Sci-Fi / Dystopia / Cyberpunk genres.
Something similar to Space Pirates and Zombies 2.

The A.I. for each of the characters will trace different paths on the map to the final arena on each playthrough.

Like Battle Royale games, the zones will start becoming unavailable as muggings and destruction ensues due to the TV Show in this local sector of space. And by winning the game with the character of your choice, you get to see their ending. Character endings are similar to Twisted Metal games, where the wish gets twisted and they usually get screwed somehow. So, in essence, you get to both play the villain and see their Karma at the end.

It is a game fully developed with Ren'Py. However, it is not a Visual Novel.
It plays more like a traditional JRPG.

So, the story is basically the user's own experience throughout this adventure, just like sandbox and sim games tend to be.

By choosing a character and seeing their ending, the player is witnessing that particular character's 'story' in the Battle Royale event, from the time of their arrival, to the hardships they faced on the way to the final arena, to their final wish being granted in a horrible way at the end. Essentially there are 13 stories at play, but player can only see the ending for the character they choose by winning the game. And it's not delivered as a narrative experience.

The big picture is that there's a TV Show in this sector of space, and these 13 characters arrive to face-off in order to get their wish granted.

Here's a preview of how the text/dialogue works (this would be the game over sequence for Lela).

Thank you! I realize it may be a bit out of place since most Ren'Py games are Visual Novels, lol. However, Ren'Py is such an awesome engine, and Python is so great for Artificial Intelligence that I'd like to focus on more dynamic games like this. I hope people enjoy it. :)

If you've been following this exotic title created with Ren'Py, you might be surprised that Who Wants To Destroy An Alien began as a totally different concept. It was originally something closer to a dungeon-crawler such as Tales of Maj'Eyal or Dungeons of Dredmor!

We've just published an interesting article regarding this on IndieDB.
You can check it out at the link below!

We just launched the Kickstarter campaign for Who Wants To Destroy An Alien!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/15 ... y-an-alien

While this may not be a Visual Novel, we are using Ren'Py to create our game.
A successful campaign will allow us to finally focus full-time on the development.
So, we could use all of the support we can get!

Feel free to check out the campaign, as it has some more information on the production. ^^

Also, you can find the free demo on Steam.

Edit: Thanks to all who backed the Kickstarter! Regardless of the result, the development shall continue. :)
