Characters, any ideas where to get 'em?

#1 Post by RandyFlynn »

Dear forum posters,

I'm struggling to find some character images to put on my visual novel. Any ideas on where I can find them? I'm not very good at drawing! I accept any kind of suggestion, but please help!! I have a concept in my mind and I want to develop it as soon as possible!

You can find some free character sprites on the community wiki: Link

Sorry for the double post, but at the moment I'm downloading the DAZ Studio program. The link you gave me says that I can download free dolls "such as Aiko or BelBel" (cit.), but as far as I can tell it looks like I've got to pay for that...

I know I've seen the Aiko doll offered for free off of Daz's store before. Not finding anything at the moment, though...maybe it was just a promotion.

EDIT: Maybe this? http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/shop/itemdetai ... cat=3&_m=d

Yep, I've tried that one too. But in the end, I'm looking for something easier, yet full of resources. ALICE looked like a good doll-generator, but it happens to have only one kind of real manga-based doll template - that is, the kind of character I need. I wonder if I can use the KiSS dolls...
(if you don't know what they are, here's the link.)
It's a shame not to be a talented Photoshop editor...

...still looking for good ideas :) please keep answering me...

There's also a free anime model called Kururu on http://www.poserclub.jp
though the website is in japanese and ye have to be a member there.. (free sign up though.)

I think it was sposed to be for Poser but it works in Daz Studio too. :3

^_^; hopefully this was helpful fer ya.

Thanks :) LOL the site has so many japanese kanjis that I'm turning japanese already XD. Anyway, cool, I know how to use Poser, I have a copy of Poser 2 scattered somewhere...is it fine for my characters? Or maybe I should convert to Poser 7?

Yes, you should be able to use the kiss dolls. About (a year ago?) I talked to the dev and they said all files should be exportable as pngs.

But it seems no one has used it yet.

Thank you! Now, the only thing I need is a site that gives me some free dolls.
So, after I get the chars, how do I put them in a transparent background?

As Dafool said, I think you just need to export them as png's on the site. I'm guessing the backgrounds are transparent then.

But since I've never done it, I can't say for sure....
