8.1 Bug Feedback

#1 Post by Spenny »

I apologize if this is not the correct place to report this issue but I wanted to bring it to the attention the development staff.
I am running Windows 10, and the Ren'Py 8.1 gave me many issues.

I was repeatedly getting Application Error 1000, Application Failure, ntdll.dll errors anytime I would try to open RenPy or launch a project.
I diligently attempted to fix this issue, up to and including, spending 4.5 hours with a Microsoft Tech remotely logged into my PC to try to discover the issue to no avail. The final suggestion was to completely wipe my computer and reinstall windows to see if that fixed this issue and sadly it did not.
Now with a completely clean PC the error persisted, so I decided that it be wise to roll back to a previous version of Ren'Py and test the issue their.

I am now using 8.0.3 and having no issues so far.
8.1 may contain ntdll.dll issues that need to be addressed.

Thank You for your time.

Do you have a more full error message? I just checked, and Ren'Py doesn't link directly against ntdll.dll (it probably does through other dlls, but not this one).

Have you checked on another computer? We've had a lot of people use 8.1 at this point, and haven't heard this. Given how specific it seems to be, I'm wondering if it's a hardware or driver error.

Oh..! I might be able to give back, for once!

Spenny, do you have two wireless cards?
E.G, a wireless card AND a motherboard with onboard wireless features?
If you don't know, take a look at the back of your tower - assuming this is a desktop.

So, I used to get this error as well as a slew of other errors, as well.
Down to and including constant unpredictable hard resets, no bluescreen, no nothing.
Only to find out that for some reason I had two wifi-capable devices, and that I had to shut down the secondary card (which couldn't be removed) and ONLY use the motherboard's wireless support, otherwise - problems, lots of 'em.

Of course, that might not be your problem... There could be an interaction or other hardware issue I'm not aware of. But I hope maybe this helps you narrow it down.

Just to continue, I've tested with 8.2 and get the same style error.
