VN/IF hybrid engine & games

#1 Post by jkj »

Hi everyone,

I've been working on a hybrid-style VN system. It's like an ADV VN, but it also has elements of IF long-form narrative and world modeling - such a the ability to freely move around game locations. The idea is to make a different style of VN. I also use 3D renders for graphics resulting in a different kind of imagery. I know many people like drawings, but 3D really works for Sci-fi.

Here's an example short game;

I'd be most interested in what people think of it and whether other people are also using 3D in their VNs.

I took a quick look at your game. It seems okay, navigation was easy. I didn't go very far in the story as I'm not into Dr Who. Other people (myself included) use 3D art. It's not very popular here at lemmasoft.
I hope you keep up your efforts; don't get discouraged.

Poorly done hand-drawn art is still poorly done art. Be a Poser (or better yet, use DAZ Studio 3D) - dare to be different.

Hey thanks a lot for trying my game. I'm glad it worked. I'm planning to continue with 3D art because it's different from the rest. I don't think it's better, just different.

Good luck with your games!

Are you going to make the game engine available to the public? If so, is it free or for sale, and what are the system requirements?

Yes, i plan to. At the moment there's no documentation. You write the games in a special language. The system requirements are low. I have versions for mobile and desktop also web. A windows 8 machine or later is fine. I want to compile a mac version, but i need to have the money to buy a mac first :)

Sounds interesting! :D
I strongly recommend that you have several people who are not coders test your documentation with the software BEFORE releasing the software. It's been my experience that folks who are proficient at designing code do a horrible job at writing instructions. :(
