Difficulty using forums

I wish to change the subject line of a forum I started 10 years ago. I attempted to create a new topic with the desired subject title, and the new topic was deleted. I then attempted to change the title of my old thread and found that it got changed back against my will, and I am unable to change the subject title now.

How (if at all) am I supposed to accomplish this goal? It seems weird and unhelpful to be locked into a subject line from 10 years ago. Thanks for clearing up this confusion.
