Well, here's a new development, something I should've said earlier, but didn't.

Zanahoria is our new character artist for black butterfly! Hooray!

Hey, hey! Just wanted to give an update.

Zanahoria has already made the sprites for Minami and Ritsu, and I wanted to show them both to you guys.

As for the writing, I've finished the prologue and I'm starting on the first chapter.

Seriously, every time Zanahoria sends me a sprite set, I want to cry. It's so beautiful >D
I want to learn how to draw like her! (And...deji, tooaya, and a whole lot of other people XD)

I'm chipping at it, little by little. I unfortunately have a hectic next two weeks, but after that, I'm free! FREE!

While I was writing, I stopped because I wasn't sure how to answer this question.

How is roll call done in Japan? I think it goes by a certain alphabet system...can I follow a Hirigana chart left to right/top to bottom or something and that's the order of the alphabet? I don't know.

I believe it does go by kana. From a-n. The full order is:
a i u e o ka ki ku ke ko ga gi gu ge go sa shi su se so za ji (じ) zu (ず) ze zo ta chi tsu te to da ji (ぢ) zu (づ) de do na ni nu ne no ha hi fu he ho ba bi bu be bo pa pi pu pe po ma mi mu me mo ya yu yo wa wo/o n.
And I think hiragana before katakana.
Although I'm not 100% sure about compound kana like kya, ryu, or byo. They might go after the first kana in the compound. Like, kya would go after ki because き > きゃ.
So... A list of names would appear like...
1. Ayane.
3. Eiko
2. Koji
3. Junichi
4. Ryuichi
