You seem to have quite a lot of faith in your government if you think just "telling it directly to them" will solve anything. Really, they don't -care-. The only reason they put laws like this through is to silence the insane activists since everyone else won't bother speaking up. They just find ways around it and grumble. On another note, you -can't- even really speak directly to the government. It's practically impossible to get a single voice heard. People are better off gaining a huge group to petition or something. Though, chances are that won't do much either.
Nope, not a single faith.
A huge group? That maybe works, but really it isn't
A few years ago ppl were shot because they're saying that kinds of things.
Now not anymore but...
I'm sure they'll never listen...
Even for a bit

Argh, this is the problem nowadays. The little man is practically invisible. All these ministers/senators/Evil galactic overlords/things might be busy, but their duty should be to serve the public.

Huh. I was thinking "Argh, this is the problem nowadays. The little man just assumes he won't be heard and doesn't bother trying to voice his opinions."

The "insane activists" who the government supposedly put laws into place to silence are just "telling it directly to" the government. They speak up, they get heard, their fears get acted upon. The guy who sits around saying "the government won't listen to me" - he is the problem. If all the government hears is the insane activist, the government has no choice but to presume that this is the will of the people, and enact laws to support that position.

Now, I know it's not that simple, and I know there are corrupt and uncaring politicians around, but seriously - it's always been this way, it's not a new thing, and it's not a total obstacle. In every modern western democracy I know of, the little guy all on his own can talk to his government; Blue123 and I can write to our local MPs, bloodywyvern can write to his local congressman - these people are there specifically to represent you in the legislative council (congress or parliament, whichever) and it's their entire job to listen to you when you have problems. Maybe they'll ignore you if they think you're in a minority, but believe it or not, MPs and congressmen do actually do things for their constituents sometimes!

The main thing that's changed recently, if anything has, is that the media is far more happy to report on corruption and scandal, and doesn't think that community success stories are worth reporting on.

This fashionable "the government doesn't care at all" cynicism is depressingly popular, but totally counter-productive. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy of the worst kind. The entire point of democracy is to make your voice heard - if you grumble to yourself instead of your representative, if you don't vote "because there's no point, nothing ever changes", then you're part of the problem.

...of course, none of that necessarily holds for places like Indonesia - I have no idea how bad their government is, and if they're shooting people on the street for expressing an opinion, as was suggested earlier on in the thread, then sure, that's not democracy. But those of us lucky enough to live in pretty open first-world democratic countries, gerrymandering and Diebold and Fox News aside, should at least try to use what we've got before rejecting it wholesale.

Ah that was sorta my point. I was mentioning that the reason they go after the activists is because no one else actually does anything. I don't have much faith in government, that's true...but if I had some sort of major problem I would go through all channels avaliable to me.

I wouldn't say all activists tell it to the government, they more like shout it. They sort of represent the odd uncle in your family who gets so drunk he starts screaming about things. You just sort of tune him out. A good portion go through better channels and I respect that more. I just get a little perturbed with their tactics from time to time.

Yes, it goes by politicians. Some will listen and others won't, just like normal people. Really it comes down to how many people send in similar views. Unless they are personally moved by your problem than 90% of the time you must be in a majority of people who wish to change it. They can't afford things like that otherwise, well unless they are on their last term...

The media follows shock and awe tactics. Sure, someone rallying people to save an old building in some poor neighborhood is great and all...but there's no ratings there. They need the fear, the insanity. Everything they can get their hands on that will make us gasp.

Islamics?
This is not a hasty generalization, isn't this? :P

I'm Islam, though I am not the type who says things like you said above (wipe 'em out or such), and I WON'T do such thing.
Well, instead of being annoyed, I'm sad for that truth. Because if they're Islamic people, why did they do something that is not in Islamic belief? :(

IMHO, the mistake is in the way how (most of) our people think and react. Most of our people let their emotions to control their minds, and when this happens, don't hope we can talk about rationality. So? It ended up with people who like to quickly judge 'this religion is wrong or such', or if I can give better example, people's reaction after the election, when a candidate lose in the election . :(

I think you did... azureXtwilight never mentioned the word Islamic in her post. XD I do believe the last reference to Islamic nations was by Sin a couple posts ago.

Anyways going off of what he said, I don't think it's really much of an exaggeration to say that a number of Islamic nations have adopted much stricter laws regulating social conduct than other secular states. There's nothing political or opinionated about it, it's just a statement of a fact. Of course, just how much these laws matter is kind of iffy, since most of the time, they're rarely followed behind closed doors. From what I know, most Iranian youth dance and play rock music in private just fine even if the law technically has a ban on it. However, some other laws, in particular the conduct of women, are more carefully observed.

There are always going to be some exceptions, but in general, there's alot more censorship going on in countries under Islamic regimes than in the secular nations of the West. However, the jury's still out whether they are any more authoritarian than a regular secular dictatorship like Russia or China.

True, I never said which religion this is, because I don't want to insult anyone.
You've guessed that yourself, so I'm not responsible for this.
Because in fact there's not only 5 religions in here in fact. Altough MAINLY are here are 5. But I see there's more than 5.
I said I never want to insult anyone.
AND it's true that most people with large groups often do that.
It's more essential if the government and them tied.

Aaaanywaaaay, I've searched local forums and gossips and finally found that it has stopped.
So no more erasing.
Tough most (I don't know exactly how much) sites has already been blocked.
And it's mainly listed "porn" here not "hentai".

The main reason is oil price is skyrocketing and many people complained, so this is a big problem since large groups made big fuss and all...
So the goverment seemed to pending some "not-so-important-and-vital-things" like this.
At least that's what rumor say...

What do you guys think?

... why would you want to ban porn?
It's said that porn on the internet actually prevents rape:

I tried telling the above statement Mikan mentioned to a Christian just now (albeit, an extremist of Christianity) and she said it was bullshit.

I myself do find the statement to be quite accurate. In the county I live in, rape has gone down. I think it has to do with more people getting internet access.

Now, to ban hentai in a country is just wrong. It's wrong for any reason to ban anything that isn't detrimental to a person's health. Some studies show (don't remember which ones) that masturbation is good for you, and can improve virility, relieve stress, and the like. I occasionally involve such practices in my meditation to help relieve more stress than deep breathing and such can do alone.

But that's not the subject now, is it?

Let me get back on track. Censorship, in my opinion, is an evil tool of extremists and evangelists who want to control the world through the fear that if you touch yourself, you go to hell. In my opinion, censorship should have never, ever been invented. Not even for the sake of protecting children. Why? because children are still more messed up today then in previous parts of time, so why slow down the process of corruption?

Also, Christianity probably has a big role in the evil that is the blocking of those hentai sites (and in that dude's country, gay porn sites). It is a reason why I refuse to step foot into a church, or go near a Christian-related organization, unless they have something I want - they are, in an esscence, trying to take over people's freedoms and steal them away. The right to look at porn, hentai, whatever, is a goddess (yes, goddess), given right to humans. They deserve to, nay, need to get off once in a while. Without hentai, people with partial or full-on 2D complexes cannot enjoy masturbation. And, many people make a living off of selling or making hentai.

Therefore, without hentai, some people will become destitute, while others will go crazy from a lack of self-pleasure.

Same thing goes for (regrettably) cigarettes. Without the tobacco industry, people will go poor, and others will go crazy from a lack of nicotine.

I hope this makes sense. I am suffering from "changes" to my "happy pills" so I am kinda weird right now.

Thank you and see you later!

I don't know why the government is doing this!

After I'm asking around to some people who is pro to this "banning" porn thingies,
they said that even with the 18-year-old warning kids and teens these days don't care. Hmm, my computer is also blocked for accessing those thingies too.
So the government saw that the rape rate in my country is skyrocketing, not just rape but prostitusion. And according to them, hentai materials are to blame.

Not only bam those sites, mmmm.....
Oh, yeah I remember, CDs and DVDs are prohibited, too.

Uhhhh, I'm not completely agree here, I'm not a Christian.
I'm a Catholic, and besides Christians are the minors here, alright. And Christian's voices is never been heard here, so don't expect this religion do something like that. But indeed this is caused by a certain organization.

I'm starting to think that religion is NOT to blame, BLAME THE PEOPLE.

Every time I have run across censorship in some manner, it's because someone thought "<some faction, usually kids> shouldn't see/hear this, we are protecting their best interests" - and yes, I actually did hear someone say this when she was discussing why a book needed to be censored. The problem? Because she didn't like the book herself, she felt that, as a position of authority, she had the right to decide what was acceptable and what wasn't...never mind others in similar position were *we may not like it, but others will so we just won't read the book".

While it is REAL easy to blame religon on something like this, it really is all about people in power <or THINK they are in power> deciding what's best for people instead of letting people look at something and decide whether or not to watch/listen to it for themselves. Reminds me slightly of *you will watch Blue's Clues and if you don't like it TOUGH that's the only thing we feel you should watch*.....failing to realize that maybe not everyone in the world loves Blue's Clues as much as the person who enacted said program.

I apologize for my post. If I offended anyone, well, that was not my intention. I personally though have had way too many bad experiences with both Christians and Catholics (also many with Wiccans and Atheists, but that's not the point), and tend to over-react on the whole censorship thing, and then blame the religions I conflict with the most.

I'm also what politicians would call "liberal"; that is, my opinions are generally liberal-minded, and to my recollection, liberal-minded opinions include anit-censorship. Then again, I always have been against censorship in any way, shape, or form. Why? Heh, blame my hippie teachers, and a mind that always wants "pure" content in everything. And I mean everything.

If it were up to me, words would not get bleeped on television, nudity wouldn't get blurred, violence wouldn't be blocked, and so forth. I'm generally not that sensitive to most things that are censored. In fact, I love seeing those things most times, and occasionally try to shock my friends with such stuff. I'm a patron to certain shock sites for example, not because they "get me off", but because I find them to be hilarious. I love dark humor, violence, and crudeness in my anime sometimes as well, just as much as I love fan service, moé, and silly humor...

It's just who I am. I like the more messed up things in life, and hate censorship with an unbridled, fiery passion. And don't worry, I won't post a shock pic here. I have boundaries, scruples even. I know when something is appropriate for a specific situation, just as well as I can sense how someone over an internet connection is feeling.

Though I love shocking people sometimes with my occasional behavior and messed up phrases.

Anyhow, I do apologize if I offended anyone. It was just how I felt, and often, my feelings or opinions can be offensive to one or more group of person.
