I liked the pink-colored background a lot, but such bright colors probably weren't the best for a background when the focus should be on the sprites. ^_^ Excited to see Alexander Kaloyan's work again!

Thanks Zelan! :)
Yeah, we might revisit the colors at some point, maybe make some things stand out a little more, but probably keep things feeling more realistic than my original version. Alex is way better at laying out the space and elements in perspective than I am (also it takes him a lot less time :P ). And me, I'll just make everything funky and colorful if you let me!

Yay! Finished another scene for the opening! :)

Sam wakes up early in the morning just like the rest of us (most of us?) and thinks about life as he gets ready for work.

I wish I didn't have to wake up early like Sam. :/ Unfortunately, school.

I'm very interested in that photograph hanging on the wall in the background... Sister and niece? Mother and sister from a long time ago? Ex-wife and daughter??

How inquisitive you are, Zelan. :)
I'm glad you noticed that, it is actually a little hint thrown into the scene about Sam's family.

Look, my obsessive compulsive illustration of Seattle!

The obsessive compulsiveness paid off... that looks beautiful! You even got the mountain in the background (can't remember the name at the moment).

Thanks Zelan! :)
That's Mount Rainier. Have you been to Seattle?
I stayed there for a month about 10 years ago, and that's 75% of the reason I set this story there. :P
I'm having this scene animate from night to 'DAWN' for the opening credits, it should work really nicely.

Mount Rainier! That's right. Yeah, I was there for about a week this past summer. Not long enough for me to commit every detail to memory, of course, but I could appreciate some of the more recognizable things that are in there.

I mean, hey, nothing wrong with that. Write what you know. :P

Oooh, that sounds fancy. I agree, it should work super nicely. ^_^

Nice! Hope you got a chance to visit the bridge troll. :)
I wouldn't say I know it, but I'm familiar with it enough and filling in the gaps when necessary has been a fun challenge so far!

I'll have to post a night version when I have some time, as well. :)

And I'm back after a brief hiatus - which featured:
  • Helping out with Event Photography
  • 10 Day Trip to Chicago (it was wonderful and artistic)
  • 7 Days in Cuba (quite pleasant indeed)
  • Putting Together a 150-page Exhibition Catalogue for an Artist
Now, without further ado, presenting some CG action from A Near Dawn:

Who had the pasta?

Opening art (which wound up being quite extensive), and CGs appear to be finally finished for the Prologue (Demo). We will be reaching out to voice actors to discuss recording voice for the Prologue, which will now hopefully be brought about without too many further interruptions along the way.

Look forward to it! :)

Also, awesomeness: We're starting to talk seriously with some of the voice actors who will be working on this project with us. :)

We're doing a Final Casting Call for Ally and Harry - check out the details here:

I love my composer! :)
He's putting together some really nice tracks for the project.
Hopefully I'll be able to share some of them soon.

So coolness!

I've been accepted to exhibit this project (as well as my earlier one) at Bit Bazaar - a Toronto-based indie game con. I've never participated in a con before, so I'm equal parts nervous and excited about it! :)

Now, to hustle and put together a good quality demo for the event!
