Volunteer Writer/Editor

#1 Post by Kaiyume » Sun Jan 22, 2012 8:07 pm

Well, I enjoy writing and I'd like to be able to help out with visual novels.

I'm currently in school (and I'm a perfectionist) so things may take a little longer to complete. I don't write BxB, GxG, or hentai. And, well, I'm willing to write for free.

I guess the genres I'm most comfortable with include fantasy, humor, and school life stories. I'm open to other genres, but I'm generally weaker when it comes to horror and mystery.

Here are some excerpts from my NaNoWriMo. (I tend to stylistically space out my writing.)
When the last of the scraps are gone and the cloth is in my pocket, I lean back into the cool stone behind me. Although the day is mildly warm, a chilly yet peaceful breeze blows past my cheeks. A few leaves tumble over on the pavement.

While I lay here, the day seems so reassuring, so gentle... and I close my eyes to take it all in.
We start running, and Rose’s hand shifts to grasp my own. Her hand is soft and somewhat warm.

But the gesture doesn’t mean much-- at least, nothing really special. It’s simply a way for us to stay connected, a tangible means of knowing that I’m there. She’s been holding my hand since we were both kids.

[Skipped a few paragraphs here...]

We continue through the tall, gently swaying grain. I keep my eyes straight ahead, unable to focus.

Rose suddenly tugs at my hand, signalling for me to stop, and announces, “Look up!”

I comply.

The empty night suddenly erupts before me, revealing thousands of twinkling stars that swim across the obsidian sky. In the center lies a glowing, nearly full moon. It’s so breathtakingly beautiful that I have to stop and stare for a few moments in pure, silent awe.

“It’s... amazing,” I remark, stating the obvious.

If you have existing examples of your writing, feel free to put them all up (or choose them randomly). There's a massive Lemmasoft collaborative project that you might me interested in: http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewto ... 16&t=13521
The cutoff point for writers has been reached but I believe that we will still accept writers (your character assignments will just be limited).
(All projects currently on a hiatus of sorts. I blame life.)

Not really checking the forums any more due to time constraints, so if you want to contact me, PM. I'll get a notification and log in.
Also, I've been hit and run posting, which means I don't see many replies. If you want to respond to something I've said, also feel free to PM me.

NOTE: if you've got questions about vnovel or things like that, it's Leon that you should be contacting. Leon's been pretty much handling everything, but due to various reasons, I've had to withdraw entirely.

Well, I was asking for suggestions because I can't seem to find a good example of my writing at the moment. Tomorrow I'll try to post an excerpt from my NaNoWriMo attempt. (It's hard to sort through 50,000 words and find the best paragraph. XD)

The collaborative project has piqued my interest, but I'd prefer not to use Skype as means of communication... would I still be able to participate? (And if so, how?)

Yes, you should PM Gear. He's the one who's in charge.

What do YOU like to write? If you give examples of genres you will give more information, especially since there are many types of VN, not only hentai and BxB. Maybe if you post a small paragraph of your work or a full work in a Google Docs document, you will be able to show everyone your skils and talent :)
The least important things, sometimes, my dear boy, lead to the greatest discoveries.
Would write your VN for character's sprites.

In case you missed it, there's still a spot open for a 2nd writer in this project: http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewto ... 38&t=13576
but that's only if you can write scenarios with specific parameters and style. Things like these require a lot of communication and coordination so flexibility is appreciated, as well as a skype client. PM or post for further info.

Interesting. Have you done any third-person writing?
I'm going to get off my soap-box now, and let you get back to your day.

I have, but only casually. Right now I can only find goofy parodies I've written for friends... which I'm not sure would make the best examples of my writing.

Properly done parody is harder than playing a topic straight.

Well, if you want to see these, go ahead. I don't think they display any ability or have much relevance, but perhaps I can get some feedback. XD
This was written last year for a kid. He asked for a story that started with the sentence "There once was a guy that had issues about his personal hygiene... and his name was LARRY the CUCUMBER", and so I wrote a nonsensical VeggieTales parody accordingly. Despite the seemingly random content, the story ended up having a semi-serious narrative tone. If VeggieTales wasn't part of your childhood, though, it probably won't make much sense.

I wrote this in the sixth grade with a friend of mine. It involves characters from the Percy Jackson series and it parodies badly written fanfictions. But, again, since it's from so long ago, this probably isn't the best representation of my current writing.

I had meant to post this a long while ago, but time kept running away from me before I could, sorry.

I highly recommend Kaiyume as an editor. To quote myself in a private message to her (sorry if I'm incorrectly assuming you're female!), "[she was] able to go into detail about both the good and the bad, instead of just robotically picking [my story] apart line by line." She gave thorough suggestions in several different categories, such as storytelling and presentation. She was pleasant and critical without being ruthless about it. Not only that, but she gave clear reasons for why she would change certain things. I'm definitely going to contact her in the future to look over my next project! :D
