Music Synthesis

#1 Post by ShadowedMarble »

Hello All! I'm new to the forums, and working on my first game. The only problem I have run into so far is finding a decent music synthesiser, so if anyone knows where I could get one (prefferably for free), I would be quite grateful. I am particularly looking for one that can synthesize Oboe, Cello, and Piano in a realistic fashion.

Thanks!

Hi Shadowed Marble! Welcome to the forums. I suggest looking at AnvilStudio, which is a freeware MIDI synthesizer and composer/editor. It has all three instruments you're looking for, plus a ton of others. Of course, I can't say much about the quality of the sound, not being a musician myself, but it seems okay.

Also, take a look at the resources page, you can find helpful links and tools in there.

The best music composer is Reason but it's not cheap at all. It has everything you need, from beat boxes to synthesized intruments, instrument patches, effect tools...
It can export to wav or midi and is compatible with piano keyboards.

There's also FL Studio, which is an excellent tool if you plan on sampling and compose. There's an express version that is available at a low price for people who are not planning on using it as a pro.

Actually AnvilStudio, on the surface, already looks better than the bargain-bin midi suite I was using. I'll have to give it a shot, thanks dizzcity.

Heh, you're welcome. One of my pasttimes is finding new and interesting resources available to indie game developers. AnvilStudio was particularly useful.

AnvilStudio really looks good, but I'm a fan of GuitarPro Series.

Not free, I know...
