This is beautiful!!
I love the art in this.
The story sounds like it can be very interesting too.

...Please consider a " super easy fool proof" mode?
I like stories, and would be willing to play this for the artwork alone but I don't know if I'd be any good at shooting. T_T
Perhaps other possible players think the same?

Thank you! ^^

I have had the concern of difficulty come up a few times... I actually haven't begun work on the easiest difficulty yet but I'm including a new mode where you have an option to let the level "play by itself". This could be used for whatever level you are in. For example, if a level is too difficult, you can set it to automatic play so you would still get the story but wouldn't have to play the actual game. There will be rewards for actually playing through each level on your own
after beating the first level Mneme will receive an "antique" school uniform from a character which raises her defense in battle and wearing it during the visual novel parts of the game will trigger certain dialogue when you go on date events
^^'

I'm estimating that about 85% of the game is in a standard visual novel format. There are seven shooting levels in Chapter One and put together they contain 16,107 words while the actual visual novel aspect has 109,380 words (this is including all the alternate events and two routes, though). Chapter Two only has three shooting levels and the final chapter has two.

... But all of this is subject to change upon release of the demo. I'll see what feedback I get and chose what to keep, improve on, or just discard completely. ^^

If anyone is interested, Fiona Cheung (Mneme's voice actress) was kind enough to let me post one of her samples online as a preview. You can listen to it here.

This looks amazing. Who's doing the music? If you need anymore tracks let me know because I'd love to submit some tracks to a project like this.

Ahaha ^^' I don't think I'll be able to release the demo today. Hopefully I'll finish it by this weekend but it's impossible to complete it today. Sorry... Here's a preview of the first Mini-Boss when you start off the level. The score and music have been disabled for now.

^^ Sorry for the crappy framerate. The game runs smoothly at 30 fps (which will be displayed on-screen as well) but my recording software, on the other hand... Y.Y

Ooh, I don't usually like voice acting but this sounds very well done. Mneme's voice actress did a great job making her sound robot like! It'll probably be even better with music, for the full experience.
Good luck getting the demo out this weekend! I'll be eagerly awaiting to try it out. :)
Just one little thing, the part where Mneme says "My intent was to shoot to exterminate but, unfortunately, I was not successful", there's an unnecessary 'did' in the text.

And wow, props to you for completing such a long script. That's definitely something to be proud of. I've always been intrigued by stories about utopia as well - sci fi is one of my favorite genres. ^-^
I don't know anything about danmaku, but it'll certainly be interesting to try out something new :3 Best of luck!
I'm so honored! Your art is amazing and I've been a huge fun of your (P)lanets game for a long time now! You're one of my greatest inspirations when it comes to script writing... the character development in (P)lanets was amazing and I could only hope to ever get to such a level with my amateur writing >,<

I'm hoping that the full game will feature an option where the player can choose if they want the full game, visual novel parts only, or danmaku parts only.

Thank you so much! ^^
Thanks for this comment by the way, I'm really flattered ^^ <3

Thank you! The game will most likely be fully voiced but you can disable the voice overs if you want ^^' The main reason is because of the shooting levels... I wanted the game to feel like a VN all the way through so this was just an experiment to see if having a fully voiced game would work out. And thanks for for correcting that... I have a feeling I'm going to need quite a few proofreaders if this demo does well and I do release a full version. ^^'

Demo is out... Download it here^^

I need as much feedback as I can on this... ^^'

To play:
Your objective is to avoid enemy fire long enough to progress.

Use arrow keys to move up, down, left, right.
Hold the Z-Key to fire.
Use the X-Key to bomb.
You can only bomb three times per level.

(There is no score for now... Mneme is a liar. If she mentions anything about a score she's LYING, okay!? ^^')

I think the voice acting was definitely useful, since its hard to read while trying to avoid the bullets.
I did choose to play on easy mode, but even then, I was a bit confused - I was able to put Mneme in a certain position on the screen and hold down the Z key without moving her at all, because in that position, all of the bullets went around her. You may want to check that - even on easy mode it still shouldn't be possible to cheat the game like that, should it?
When I played the game properly I died in about 30 seconds /fail
But... there was no signification that I was losing lives, and the game just simply ended before I noticed I had 0 lives left. Maybe make some kind of alert that you've lost a life or something?
I was hoping you would put a demo of the VN part of the game also. Were you planning to make a demo of that too?

Hi Viridi! I've been stalking your thread but haven't posted till now.... @u@;;; So! I played your demo (I'm sorry I didn't get to finish it though ;___; The hearts keep killing me), but I'll give you my initial thoughts anyway:

- Voicing acting was very good and helpful! It's hard to read sometimes when you're trying not to die, but it's also helpful that the hitbox is super tiny (it's just the dark dot right?)
- There seems to be "safe spots" where you can just hover and not worry about dying. Good for parts when story is happening, boring for parts where nothing is being said.
- Easy mode is as easy as it says. In fact I got bored of it and quit to replay in Normal mode xD (But don't worry about this! I love challenging bullet hell/danmaku is all :3) Probably good for people who are new to danmaku though.
- Normal mode is nice :3 But I don't have to patience right now to persevere and defeat the hearts OTL (Someday!!) I really like the bouncing bullets. THEY ARE SO FUN.
- I feel that the amount of bombs and lives is reasonable.
- There were a few inconsistencies in the volume of the voices. Towards the part right before the hearts start raining down on you, I think Mneme's voice is too quiet compared to the volume of her voice in the beginning :0
- Overall, great progress! I just wish the bullet swirl pattern wasn't so easy to dodge. Consider a Hard mode?

Actually, Mneme's little sprite will darken a bit when you lose a life, but the game would probably still benefit if a sound was played whenever you lost a life or if Mneme flashed or something, just to make it more obvious.

Oh, all right. There was just so much going on in the screen that I didn't notice. But yes, some kind of sound, or more obvious alert to losing a life would be very helpful :}
