Aratta Studios is recruiting for its VN!

Aratta studios is currently recruiting for its visual novel project called Saigo no Chansu. Saigo no Chansu is
a Bishoujo-styled visual novel that’s focused on romance and drama. Its setting is mainly a high school
in modern Japan including such places as: Dorm rooms, classrooms and the school campus.

The visual novel itself uses a traditional text and sprite-based model. Its story will be told through the
perspective of the protagonist using a first person narrative. Keep in mind that it will have a high level
of drama and could possibly become an 18+ game with nudity in certain scenes. The visual novel
however won't be focused on this nudity and there will be an option to turn it off.

Aratta Studios is an international, amateur studio, focused on creating Visual Novels. The studio was
created on 30 April 2012 with the idea of creating a Visual novel called Saigo no Chansu. The project
became bigger than expected so it was decided to start recruiting members in order to create the
Visual novel that was envisioned. Aratta Studios has no intention of selling its project yet, so we work
with dedicated volunteers only. We may start multiple project if we have the people and resources and
we’re always looking for partners to work with.

Visit www.Aratta-Studios.com for more information.

The visual novel features eight routes in total, six of which are the routes of the romantic interest.
Each of these six routes has at least three endings, one good, one neutral and one bad ending. The
other two routes are one lonely route; a short route with a bad ending and the friend route which will
also include a secret route.

Saigo no Chansu will consist out of multiple acts. Each act is a collection of multiple chapters and each
route will have four acts in total.

Saigo no Chansu will be released one act at the time starting with Act 0. Act 0 is the pre-route act which
means that you do not follow a specific route yet. It’s the most complicated of all the acts as it
involves a lot of choices which determine the route the story follows. It also serves as an introduction
to the story and its characters. We’ll be releasing the one act of each normal route after the release
of Act 0. There are six normal routes in total which means that six acts will be released at the same
time, each time.

Click on the following links for more information about the visual novel and its characters:

We are currently giving priority to programmers and digital background designers but we’re still looking
for people to fill in some of the other positions as well. Keep in mind that Aratta Studios is an amateur
studio and none of the positions are paying jobs.

Go to our websites positions page for more information about the individual positions you can apply
for. (Note that the information about the background designers is incorrect and will hopefully be
updated soon)

Please note that over the last few months, there have been a number of projects clearly inspired by Katawa Shoujo. I understand that people like it. But make sure to consider the following:

1) Are you ready and willing to write a lengthy story with multiple endings? It takes a huge amount of time, and requires a huge amount of dedication. If you are determined to create freeware, then you won't be able to monetize your efforts. Furthermore, working with a team can be just as (if not more) difficult as trying to tackle the whole thing yourself. Keep in mind that a huge number of freeware games never get past the planning stages, or release a demo and nothing more.

Therefore, I recommend working on *one or two* individual characters' routes first, or a side story, and finish it. Release it in order to show the community that you're committed to writing and coding. Then resume working on your large scale game. In other words, climb up a hill before you climb up a mountain.

2) Do you genuinely like straight harem --one boy with multiple girls -- stories? If so, that's fine. (They're a guilty pleasure for me.) Please let us know how familiar you are with harem stories and boy x girl romance across all forms of media.

There are a lot of other possible pairings. (One group that's inspired by KS is using only girl x girl romance options.) Or you can write an entire narrative without pairings. To be honest, a lot of stories can be told through a visual novel. Here's some sample genres from the main TVTropes index: Action Adventure, Horror, Speculative Fiction, and Sports Story.

3) How much do you honestly know about modern day Japan? Have you been there? If not, how much research have you done?

Again, there's a lot of other times and places to set your story. (Another group inspired by KS is setting their tale in rural New York.) You can look to the recent or distant past, and place your story in any real or imaginary setting.

Nudity by itself is not obscene. Every person is born naked, and it's not possible to permanently attach clothes to a person's body. Having stated that, if your characters are meant to be attractive to the audience, and if they also find each other attractive, then that can be a form of fanservice.

If you decide that your game should include adult content, then this topic should be placed in the adult section of this forum.

Nothing wrong with multiple endings, but again, they require a lot of work. You'll need to decide how difficult it will be to obtain endings. And you will probably benefit by making the choices and paths somewhere between "glaringly obvious" and "based on random chance."

Finally, good luck.

Thank you very much for your comments and input gekiganwing. We appreciate it a lot and many of the things you said will be taken into reconsideration.

1) Yes we are fully aware of the size of the project. The first results won't be seen in months and it won't be a surprise the finished project will take more than a year or even two or more.
We knew the moment we started that this wouldn't be a simple task and that we would need multiple people to realize it. We are also aware that working in a team brings it own set of difficulties which will take time to master.

We're currently working on the first act of the visual novel. As in many visual novels this is the act were you choice a route. We are planning to release the VN in acts, starting with the first. The first act will be "the hill we climb before we start climbing the mountain". After that we'll tackle the individual routes an act at the time. There will of course be worked on the other acts as well even when working on the first act. After all you can't create something if you don't know where your heading.

2) Yes we are a genuinely fan of harem stories as long as the story follows only 1 girl at the time. Meaning that other romantic interests won't show any feelings towards if the Protagonist if there route isn't followed.

we are aware that VN have other genres beside romance but it's our love for romance stories that inspired us in making a Romance drama.

3) The point of creating this visual novel a world of it's own. It will visualise modern Japan in a way most seen in Anime and manga. However this vision about mordern Japan will most likely not reflect the truth nor is it intended to. The goal is to create a enjoyable story not to reflect on reality.

The environment in Saigo no Chansu cannot be specifically compare with any real world place. There won't be any cities mentioned nor will the school or anything a like truly exist. You may find reverences about certain things but it's created solely to suit the story.

4) We are not certain that the game will indeed include adult content. As you said such content is fan service and you can't say that it truly adds something to the story. It may add something to the Visual novel but it attracts as much people as it repels. So we decided to build our team and work on the story first before sorting it out. But we have to mention it as it maybe added in the future and we want people to know that it's possible.

5) It indeed takes more work. The first act will have the most choices the next act of each route will only feature around 1 or 2 choices each act. These choices will affect the following chapter or multiple chapters. Making a choice however will not instantly set you on either the good or bad route nor change the entire route. Most choice will not affect more than one or two chapters and getting a bad ending can only be achieved by certain choices. The choices won't be "glaringly obvious" but any one with some form of common sense will ether reach the good or neutral ending.

I hope this answers all your questions and thanks again for you comments and input.

Maybe you should make a thread in the Recruitment section.
But this project sounds really nice, and that art is gorgeous!
Oh, and one more thing: it's should be its because it's is actually the short form of it is.

Thank you for the heads up about the it's and its, we've corrected the mistake.

And you're right maybe this topic is best moved the the recruitment section. we however already made the mistake of posting it in the wrong sub-forum before so it's best to wait until an admin comes online.

OK, I merge posts from both topics and delete the "wrong" one. If you've decided that this VN is going to be hentai (18+), please note me so I can move it to 18+ section.

This sounds like a good idea. Perhaps this design choice will help you manage the scope of your project.
Aratta Studios wrote:Yes we are a genuinely fan of harem stories as long as the story follows only 1 girl at the time.
I should probably not use the word "harem" when referring to a story where the main character has three or more love interests, unless it specifically includes harem tropes. I will use the phrase "love polygon" instead.

Don't worry, I don't expect stark realism, and I don't believe you want your story to read like a news report. Well, unless a writer specifies that they're striving to create a bleak tale, or a story meant to portray real problems.

Unfortunately, even if you set your story in a fictional and not-entirely-realistic place in Japan, it helps to do at least a little research. There are a lot of potential errors, and you don't want to end up making mistakes that could be corrected easily.

Thank you for the move, so far there are no real plans that visual novel will indeed become a 18+. As we stated before it's mentioned because it's possible. We'll inform you if this becomes the case.
gekiganwing wrote:This sounds like a good idea. Perhaps this design choice will help you manage the scope of your project.

It's both to manage the size of the project as well as bringing out content to let the community know of the existence of the Visual Novel.

Ah yes indeed, a harem is one we're a minimum of love three interests are more and less actively pursuing the protagonist which is not the case in this visual novel.

It is indeed important to do research even if the word that is created is completely made up. Most of our research consists out of gathering information about Japanese High school life. Not every thing will reflect reality but we need to keep the basics in mind. Such as start of the school terms, General campus life, school hours and so on.
