Group Play is a weekly event in which one game is selected to be promoted within the forums to be played by us as a group. It provides an opportunity to promote some smaller games that would otherwise get lost, promote discussion and promote creativity. This isn't just about the creators of the games, but also us as a community. It acts as a way for us to analyse work as creative people and for us to develop the necessary critical language to develop and pursue our work.

This week's game is "Across the Night to You" by Gargargarrick!

You can find links to the game here: Across the Night to You

There are some rules to follow in the following discussion about the game.

- In your primary comment on the game, please try to mention one thing you liked and one thing you think could be improved. This is in the spirit of giving both encouraging and helpful comments to the creators. You may of course go beyond this with praise or critique. I can't enforce this rule, I'll just silently judge you.

- Please try to do one play-through or enough of the game to develop a solid opinion. Some things can be commented on early on, but things like plot might be best left until you finish the game.

- There is no rule as to whether you post here only or in the completed game topic. Feel free to do as you like. This is just a space to discuss this game while playing it at the same time as others.

- Please try to think about the game play as a whole, as well as the different parts that make up the game.

- Please be respectful to the game and creator. You don't have to like a game, but you should be respectful to the effort.

- Please follow the forum rules.

If you would like to make your own suggestions and haven't already, please feel free to PM them to me.

These are the current guidelines for suggestions:

- Anyone can send me 3 games (VN, KN Sim, whatever, just from these forums or related to) that they think are worth playing by PM.
- There can only be three suggestions per person and if a game gets suggested multiple times, they still only get one draw.
- You may suggest your own games.
- For now they must not be 18+, just because we want to encourage everyone to join first up. If it goes well, maybe something can be arranged for the big kids.
- Please try to make sure the game is short (around a max of 30,000 words). It isn't a hard and fast rule, but it's easier to make time for smaller games and it will give this a greater chance of success.
- They must be free and preferably available on all 3 platforms, again for easy access.

And with that, let the games begin!

It's more like a non-illustrated, traditional short novel with music in it, but I fell for the story. It's very sad....

I'm not in a place that makes me available to critic others, but I really appreciate and love novels in all kind of presentation, visuals, digitals, books... I don't care. I love novels.

I don't know how to put a comment, but there's something bugging me during the reading; since this is digital novel, why the sound effects are not much? Well, when you mention thunder, blowing wind and such, shouldn't you put some sfx thunder, blowing wind to influence the reader's mood?

Anyway, I love the story. I can read and read over again. It's hard to feel bored just with the story. Sorry for my rudeness.

p/s: Traditional: novel written in books (I made this up by myself, sowy)

ZinniaAuRevoir, you're not rude at all, why are you apologizing? :)

I agree that more sound effects would have been nice to give it a bit more spice, but it didn't really bother me. The music was nice enough.
The visuals were well chosen. While there were no sprites, I didn't feel there was anything lacking.

I believe it would have been a way better KN if the story had been more elaborated. It all happened so fast, I hardly cared about the characters. There could have easily been more scenes and character interaction.

:!: I apologizing because I afraid I'm not choosing the right words to criticize others. I'm a little sensitive person so.... I hope the creator won't feel bad or down with my comment. Sorry again.

I found it a little difficult to follow. The lines were very choppy and cut short in places. I would have preferred to have bigger blocks of text at a time.

I couldn't decide if the story was trying to be funny or romantic. The writing was a bit of both.

The music was well chosen and the backgrounds beautiful.

I thought the story was nicely written, with a good and quick progression. A little bit shorter than I typically like to read, I would love to read an expanded version of this, but I don't think it detracted from the overall story. The writing itself was well done, flowing well for me, and there were just a couple rough points which caused me to pause and slip out of the story.

The thing that felt the most off to me was the setting presented. Nothing terribly big or jarring, but a few little things that were sprinkled throughout that felt off. The Goddess, who seemed to know little of details of Earth, spouting a fashion phrase, the drastic change in time perception, one year being a long time going to 1,000 years being a shrug of the shoulders, and the sudden smattering of Japanese at the end, Princess being replaced by Hime. These were certainly not enough to ruin the story for me, but it did take it from "That was really cool," to "That was good."

Overall I enjoyed it, and would love to see more from the creator. :)
