Unless you, or someone else you know, have lived in Japan for quite some time, you may benefit by reconsidering your setting. Your story could easily take place in a variety of other nations. It could happen in the present day, or the recent past, or it might be an unrealistic fairy tale-esque world.

This premise could become bleak and horrifying in a hurry. If you choose to take it seriously, then you're dealing with a character with two addictions who is forced to (or maybe decides to) sell his child into servitude. Chihiro's dad could be a tragic figure, or could be a villainous character with little hope for redemption. Likewise, if the character Hitoriki is an underage drinker (and if he consumes alcohol without his family's knowledge and/or consent), that is another unsettling premise that could take a dark turn.

Then again, you could portray this situation in a humorous way. Make sure the people that take Chihiro in are established as trustworthy people who are looking out for her from the beginning, and who can protect her better than her parents. Consider using exaggeration, and making sure the story does not become too realistic.

A small hint, you may want to change the GUI's or the text's color. I find it a bit hard to read.

UPDATE: Demo release soon, depending on how fast my artist go, and plus I admit I'm slacking off xD Re drawing the character since I found a change of style >.e! But yes Demo release MAY be on Dec. 5-8th so look foward to it DD!

UPDATE 12/8/12:
Sorry for the delay, the demo MAY be releasing later during December 18th-22nd, due to school and lack of time. Plus my BG artist made some few mistakes, and have been slacking off. I too was slacking off to be honest. But I also had extended to make it more adventurous. So I hope the change will do some good :]

As you can tell the finals are up, and sadly....I'm super busy studying. So I'm progressing slowly. Hopefully this demo will be released before or exactly on the 22nd. Well thanks for being patient everyone Working my best :]

Well, I am officially done with the demo, just some needed twist, and fix !

UPDATE:12/21/12: ok right now I am hoping to finish the sprites as soon as I can. It's sooo hard to make them look a like. So many expression. And now even I'm getting lazier to do the CGs! xDDD BUT I MUSN'T BE LAZY! Winter break, might as make some use to this. I'm fixing some more scripting, menus, and options. Ohhhh the backgrounds....i might do need a background artist....might cost me. For sure there won't be any artist that do BG for free?? Haha, well that means....extra practice! Please be looking out for a demo!

Oh my...you do this yourself? Tha art is quite good ^^ The BG right now is nice. (Somehow I find the text font hard to read @@) Will be looking forward to this (Not just the demo, but the game~)

UPDATE 12/30:

Redoing all sprites, and redoing the GUI. I also changed the screen resolution to...1280x720 so it'll be much much better! ^-^;; hard work but worth it. So all the sprites...are 0% T^T But CGs will remain! ^-^!
