Deji's redline/redraw thread (re-open Dec 2014!)
Grand Reopen - December 2014!
If you're insecure about your art and feel like I can do a better job, drop your art here, I'll redline/redraw it when I can.
I'll try to do one or two each day (and not drop the thread as usual >>;; )
Only one request per person: one sprite or one illustration.
You can ask again after a few days!
You may also request little tutorials if you want, but please, nothing too complicated that will take me more than an hour to do ^^;

When drawing something, anything, USE REFERENCES!! Use your Google-fu!
Don't trust your memory, and don't blindly trust what others teach you either.
Research, observation, analysis, experimentation and practice are the key! (:

Wow! That's really nice of you, Deji! The moment I get to draw something I'll post it here (sadly has nothing).

Oh thanks would be perfect to have some help. Actually I don't draw much the bodies, but I recently began to seriously practice about this.
Made this one (with some help ofc), how does it look ? Any tips maybe ? Thanks x)

Re: Deji's redline/redraw thread
Well, you need to practice a lot more!
It seems you used the head measure (I can see some markings counting heads) and nodes to draw where the articulations should be, but you lack structure!
Your body seems too elongated and it's like it's made of play dough ^^; All that is easily fixed by learning how to properly use structure.
I grabbed my Loomis book (look Andrew Loomis up, you'll find a lot of useful material!) and drew his suggested structure on top of your drawing. It ended up looking like the kind of body I usually draw (and of course it probably has lots of flaws too!), I don't know if you're going for a more stylized look (a la CLAMP, for example?).
Hope it helps you see where your weak points are, and keep practicing!
Using posemaniacs one hour a day should be great for you

Re: Deji's redline/redraw thread
Could you redline this sprite I'm doing for a bishoujo game?
I'm pretty awful with anatomy, especially female, and only recently have I attempted doing full bodies... Thank you ^^

By the way, Deji, I looked up that Loomis guy you said and some of his books have captured my attention. Which is a better way to start, Fun with a Pencil, Creative Illustration or Succesful Drawing? And if I get the three of them, in which order should I go through them?
Sorry for the random question *hides in dark corner*

Re: Deji's redline/redraw thread
Like I tough, she's way to streched, and I indeed made head measures. Thanks for the help, I'll keep practicing. I'm really not used to draw bodies, that's actually ( yeah, seriously,) like my first drawing of a full one, I'm maybe learning the "rules", but I need to be more experimented x)
For the stylized look, hum don't know yet, at first I need to at least know proportions, style's coming later.

Re: Deji's redline/redraw thread
I don't see much wrong in your sprite, teacup
I think everything below the waist needs more work, though, so try to find some photos to use as reference, if you can (:
I did a redraw while looking at a Noizi Ito's artbook, hope you like it (and maybe find it useful!) ^^ @specialtantei: I honestly don't know x'D; I have the "Figure Drawing for All It's Worth" book, and it helps you with all the basics of human figure drawing. Maybe you could get that one?

Re: Deji's redline/redraw thread
Ok, Pyon, here's your angel guy (:
I think this is the pose you wanted to go with?
The best advice I can give you besides studying muscles in anatomy is to grab your webcam and pose. I've found it's the best way to get things right when you can't (or don't know how to) find a reference for a specific pose you want to do. I take snapshots of my hands and arms all the time for reference, because I simply can't get them right from memory!
Also I noticed the wings were placed oddly. Try to mark where the wings should be attached on the back and draw them from there instead of just drawing them behind the shoulders (a lot of artists do that and it shows!), so they'll make more sense (:
Hope it helps! ^^

Re: Deji's redline/redraw thread
Yeah, the "Figure Drawing for All It's Worth" is the one to get. Also get "Drawing the Head and Hands". Andrew Loomis has, in my opinion, the best methods and shorthand techniques of drawing the human body. His shorthand technique to get the proportions of the head right at any angle even works with anime heads! You just make the eyes bigger and nose smaller.Deji wrote: @specialtantei: I honestly don't know x'D; I have the "Figure Drawing for All It's Worth" book, and it helps you with all the basics of human figure drawing.
