Re: Memento: Aurora Chronicles [Fantasy/Steampunk][Heroines]
I've seen Obscura's Kickstarter. Although our styles are polar opposites it's obvious that Coming Out On Top is a game that deserves to be highly rated
It will be fun when we crossover

Re: Memento: Aurora Chronicles [Fantasy/Steampunk][Heroines]
Since I love fantasy and steampunk, this seems interesting to me, but I'm kind of 'turned off' by your very very long essay in the first post. Maybe you could add headers and just tell people about the most important things? Like a short summary, short description of main characters (if you want), and just a few screenshots and why it's cool?

Approved!
The kind folks over at Kickstarter like it. I have decided to delay the trigger finger on the launch button while I prepare screenshots of gameplay to go with it.
So excited! Look forward to the next few days

This seems like an interesting idea, but I feel that you are in a bit of tug of war between two different directions, comedic and serious. You describe your visual novel both as a "satire", "crazy" and "experimental", but at the same time "deep", "epic" and "beautiful".
Now, I'd be all for supporting either of those (well, maybe the epic one more), but I fear that at least half of it just isn't necessary. If you're going to make a "crazy anime satire", then make everything about the VN quirky and cartoonish. If you're going to spend a lot of money on "epic, cinematic" art and music, I think people will be expecting a VN, that, while humorous, is not a complete parody that makes fun of its setting even while trying to embellish it. It just strikes me as something that clashes with the epic scale you are hoping to achieve.

Hi Sundown! I think the words "tug of war" is perfect. I should have used it myself
It is definitely a clash between two opposite sides of the coin. I don't think that epic and funny are mutually exclusive, nor is it impossible to have a story that is both meaningful and funny. There are more whackier moments than serious, but there serious themes underneath all the colour. At least that's what I am trying to achieve
Oh, and Merry Christmas!

Re: Memento: Aurora Chronicles [Fantasy/Steampunk][Heroines]
That's definitely true, as I would describe my own story as "humorous" while still remaining serious to the plot. Heck, some of my favorite games are both comedic and epic. But, considering you're asking for peoples' money here as a new and untested studio, I think you should stop advertising it as BOTH parodic and epic, and focus on one or the other. Judging by the name ("chronicles"), the art, the worldbuilding, and everything but the dialogue, people will come in expecting something epic. So, you should cut down the focus on how crazy and humorous the game is, and say more about how much of an adventure it is, otherwise you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Or, vice-versa - emphasize the satirical aspect of it instead of claiming it's emotional and epic (but, if so, maybe change the name to something quirkier?)
Of course, I might be wrong and the Kickstarter could succeed, but that's just my opinion. Happy holidays regardless!

Re: Memento: Aurora Chronicles [Fantasy/Steampunk][Heroines]
The word "just" should never be used before "opinion". I certainly hope the Kickstarter succeeds too! A lot of changes have already been made, and after 6 weeks of preparation I feel it would look very poor if I were to bench one half of my genre because of a strange fusion - which in the end is what I am aiming to achieve
If it turns out that people were put off because they either want a game that is only funny or only serious, then it will be a very valuable lesson that others can learn from too.
Whether it succeeds or fails, people will still win, and the next project the guy after me makes will be even better. Everybody will be a winner!

/screeches because I love steampunk.
I really like the fact that you''re going for something both meaningful and epic, but still humorous and fun. The characters are really colourful and cute, ill be keeping an eye out on this,
I hope your kickstarter turns out well too uvu

Hi pyon-pyon! Thank you. I love steampunk too! In M:AC we have the best of both worlds. Some places are full medieval, some places are full steampunk and some are a healthy mix. Although the Kickstarter has only been up a few hours it makes me giddy that people are pledging even while busy with Christmas
Lets screech together.

Re: Memento: Aurora Chronicles [Fantasy/Steampunk][Heroines]
Hey kmdalot! I was checking up on the new KS games and thinking, sweet, new visual novel! Wait, where have I heard of this title before? Lo and behold, you guys had a thread here, which I didn't find until now!
Thanks for the kind words, by the way. Yeah, our games are probably as different as you can imagine. XD
Not only that, but you provide quite a lot of physical rewards in your tier, and at several different price points. That's quite a number of options. I'll be interested to see how your strategy works. I'm know I'm gonna have my hands full with the commissioned drawings (which are due after the game is complete--thank the lord). I'll probably be swearing about how I "should have just followed Memento's strategy and mostly stuck with premade objects!" XD
I am sure you'll be gaining a ton of interest from steampunk/fantasy fans in the upcoming weeks. I like your sense of enthusiasm and how it translates to your Kickstarter--it will be a great asset to your campaign.
*edit: Oh, and I don't know if you've seen this resource, but:

It's helpful to check out during your campaign.

Hello Obscura. It is a pleasure to meet your acquaintance.
Only time will tell how successful a lot of physical rewards are. I'm sure there are plenty of good reasons why people smarter than myself eschewed them in favour of rewards that either only cost time or invisible digital numbers. Whatever your project ends up as, I hope you will be swearing for all the right reasons
Thank you for the lovely words of encouragement. It is early days yet, but the response has been terrific. Tomorrow morning will be a new screenshot update, and in the next few days I will drive every steampunk lover in the world into my warm, embracing arms as I prepare to unleash my quadruple aces of even more screenshots and wallpapers ... of the thing every steampunk fan has been secretly hoping for
It may not be much, or even needed, but you now have one additional backer for your project. Here is to a bright, onion filled future.

well, it's been 20 days (a third way through the project) and my mind is pretty blown. I'm very tired, but happy.
I've updated the main post with screenshots only, theres a bunch more stuff but I don't want to spam the thread.
somebody put me to bed?

Welcome to two months without sleep. One of the fun side effects of doing a longer Kickstarter.
I gotta say, it's cool to have other people Kickstarting at the same time. YOU KNOW EXACTLY HOW I FEEL.
