Ramlend, the story of a civilization's demise and the archaeologist who saves it.
Image
Rayman Archaeology Unit receives its latest case from a missionary who shares evidence of unmarked ruins. His claims of the site being cursed piques the interest of Kara, Rayman's youngest archaeologist. She accepts the job to prove her abilities but is denied the support of a team to aid her. By her lonesome, Kara has to travel to Siji for the ruins and investigate the history of its existence.. will she be able to break the curse or fall prey to its evil?

Setting: AU modern world

Kara
19 years old, a dino-freak. Her line of work involved post-excavation analysis so her experience in field study was close to nil. Feeling too pampered and comfortable in the labs, Kara stalks upon any chance to leave the city and get dirty digging for historical finds and possibly dinosaurs.

Hi! I'm Suu, independent artist.
This is the first time I'm using a VN medium- usually I work with comics or animation but I feel that they take too much time to produce for me to actually focus on telling a good story within a set amount of time.

So with this project I hope I'm able to create something memorable and wholesome!

I'm aiming to insert animated cut-scenes or even extend the animation of sprites themselves since I am an animator, but it'll take a long time before I get to the coding part of Ren'Py and actually make the game.

There will be decision-making, though whether it'll have multiple endings is a pending idea.
Because the story contains an unfriendly entity, I'm not sure if it's wise to include a sort of run/hide system, especially when I've little experience with coding.. it's most probably that I'll leave the suspense creation to the sound design.

WIP!

I like the art and character designs. I'm also a fan of stories involving archaeology/ancient ruins, something not usually covered in a VN. Good luck!

Wow, that art looks really pro~ I totally love that coloring style *u*
The story sounds interesting, and I think it sets itself up for multiple endings, so I hope you decide to add that feature. c:
And dinosaurs are cool.
Good luck!

When I looked at your art samples, I was thinking of things to compare it to. Something about the black-and-white sketches made me think of the alternative comics series Tank Girl... but your story doesn't sound like violent absurdist fiction. So that's probably not a good comparison.

If you have any trouble using Ren'py, or if you can't find a clear answer in its documentation, then be sure to ask for help.

I generally advise against making fake choices (where both lead to the same outcome, and the wrong one includes a statement such as "you shouldn't do that"), or trivial choices (where a decision makes no difference in the plot, and it doesn't even improve characterization).

But even if your story has only one ending, you can still use decisions and branching paths to show the different parts of your fictional world. It's your creative work, so plan what you think you can manage. Think about ways to maintain your passion for creating Ramlend even on bad days, and ways to help yourself stay on task.

Good luck for this project! I have to say when I laid my eyes on the MC's sprite, I instantly fell in love with it. I'm guessing you would have really high advantage since you're already an animator. Renpy's code will be easy after you understand it, and I'm sure you'll get it done.

Of course, I'll be looking forward!

You had me at archaeology! This looks like a very interesting idea and I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes, especially with the ideas you want to try implementing.

Though Rayman will always remind me of a a certain game character with no limbs so THAT was amusing.

You had better do this theme justice, if I don't get to fight a ghost dinosaur, I will be disappointed

Sounds like a great idea, good luck!

The VN in general isn't going to get too technical in the aspect of archaeology, nor is it going to be an 'archaeological' game in that sense. I could call it tomb-raiding and not affect the storyline, the main plot revolves around the secret of the ruins and the people who do something about it.. hence a 'mystery'.

Thank you for the support guys! It's really heartening for me to meet this community (:

@gekiganwing, thank you for the advice on gameplay.. implementing interactivity is an exciting challenge, I've been playing VNs to gain some first-hand experience. There's a wide variety of styles that I could choose to go, hopefully I decide on the most suitable for the player's experience!

@MusicFate, not quite.. but the resemblance is there! I can't unsee now, pfft~! xD

This looks super exciting! The protagonist reminds me of my best friend, lmao, they love dinosaurs. The art style is very.. engaging, almost? I look at it and I know I'm happy to look at it for a playthrough without getting tired of it.

Animated cutscenes should be fairly easy for you to do, since you can import videos into Ren'Py. I'm really looking forward to this.
