Demos of commercial games?

#1 Post by kara24601 » Tue Mar 20, 2007 3:52 am

So far , I've noticed that they have what they call "demo" movies / mpgs but they really should call them sneak peeks or something 'cause "demo" should only apply to short versions of the game itself , right? :?

So...anybody know where to get real demos?

Yes , I've already been trying the sites that the full games are
available to buy from and google ...so far , no luck.

I'm interested in any demos but I'm
especially interested in any demos of yaoi / shounen ai , bishounen ,
and yuri / shouji ai type games.

And I realize older demos would probably / are probably harder to get and they may even have problems running on newer computers so I'm talking about "newer" titles like Yo-Jin-Bo -The Bodyguards- and Animamundi ( Dark Alchemist ) ....but it'd be cool if somebody was able to help out with older demos too.

And H or no ...doesn't really matter much to me just any that you'd be willing to share or know of

Please and thank you.

How do you make your games? I see. Thank you for the prompt replies, but it is my considered opinion that you're doing it wrong inefficiently because I am a perfushenal professional. Do it my way this way and we can all ascend VN Nirvana together while allowing me to stroke my ego you will improve much faster. Also, please don't forget to thank me for this constructive critique or I will cry and bore you to death respond appropriately with a tl;dr rant discourse of epic adequately lengthy proportions. - Sarcasm Veiled in Euphemism: Secrets of Forum Civility by lordcloudx (Coming soon to an online ebook near you.)

insani has fan-translated a few Japanese demos (also, another group did Gadget Trial). However, as far as Western publishers go, few release demos on a regular basis. For certain, there're no English-language demos for Yo-Jin-Bo or Animamundi.

As lordcloudx has mentioned, three Hirameki demos (Ai Yori Aoshi, Ever17, Piece of Wonder) can be found at Visualnews (or download.com).

I agree. A lot of the items on dlsite also follow this strange rule. It should be "trailers" for movies and "demos" for demonstration versions.

I've already been to visualnews , several times.
Hmm.
I probably should've added that in the initial post , eh?

Thanks for posting.

Drat.

I have problems with most of insani.org's demos but have played the Ever17 demo before , along with some others.

If your talking about Japanese demos, go to any Japanese visual novel/eroge publisher's website and you can typically find links for "demos" of their titles if they choose to put demos up (some companies like Key don't put any demos).

One note of confusion that seems kara24601 is the differance between a demo in Japan and a demo in the US. The Japanese have their own word, "taiken", to represent the traditional US demo. When translated into English, taiken is typically translated as "trial". So when they adopted the English word "demo", it went to describe everything that was not the "trial edition" of the game.

So if you looking for the playable demo of the game, look for "trial", "taiken" or "体験版".

As for where a huge collection of demos in one place are (once again, Japanese), just visit any publisher's page and you'll notice all their files are mirrored somewhere else. Sites like HolySeal, WindFriction, mirror.fuzzy2, and many others are huge demo/trial repositories of visual novels and eroge. Just go to the root address of those mirrors and you can browse huge collections of demos/trials (if you can navigate the Japanese site).

As for English, you choices are pretty limited. VisualNews gives out the most comprehensive list of available translated demos, so theres really no point in going anywhere else if your looking for commercial demos.

Ah , yes. I never knew anything about "taiken" and I was hoping http://visualnews.net/ wasn't the be all and end all for English demos or "taiken" for our side....*pout*

Thanks for the info

A) it's VisualNews, not visualnews.com
B) the url is visualnews.net, not visualnews.com =P

Well... there is a one more way to get some English translated commercial demos that arent on that list... but thats to join an actual translation group itself xD. Sorry... that probably doesn't help you ><

Many Comiket games (such as touhou games) don't really need Japanese understanding to play.

Although they are far from visual novels :?

It's a hard battle T_T.
If visualnews.com didnt cost like $1500+ to buy, I would own it and redirect it to .net, but alas~ ><
