1. What exactly is this 'affiliates' thing that makes BMT attractive? As in, how does it work, how does it help, that kind of thing.

Gumroad to sell work? That was the first one I found when trying to find a way to sell things, but it seems like there are plenty of other systems around too.
Affiliate marketing means anyone can advertise and sell your games for a small commision.
Never heard of them, but Gumroad sure looks interesting for micro-transactions and simple stuff.

A note about Paypal - unless you link your Paypal account to your bank and become verified, you'll eventually
hit a maximum send/spend limit ($10,000). Once you hit that limit, your account will be useless (i.e. defunct). FYI...

It means that everyone who's already selling games - like me and Jack and others - can quickly send out links to all our customers offering each other's, or other people's, games for sale. The affiliate gets a cut of the sale for having done the marketing.
Basically it's an easy way to reach more people than you otherwise could because someone else is doing a bunch of marketing work for you. If you're brand new at this and nobody knows your website exists, it's a very helpful leg up to have someone else blast your link at lots of potential customers. (Assuming, of course, that your game is a good fit for the other websites and they want to feature it.)
