Re: Ens Causa Sui [Nano2013]
Hmm... I'm getting interested, since I haven't seen this kind of 'god in a modern setting' sort of a thing since the Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi, which has always been my favorite light novel series, among other things.
Re: Ens Causa Sui [Nano2013]
I'd probably file this under accurate. I'm sorry, D:Einara wrote:I have a weird feeling that this story will turn out to be pretty sad.
Here comes pressure. Hope we won't disappoint!Nellie wrote:Just dropping by to say I really love the premise of this game. One of the NaNo's I'm most looking forward to! All the best!!
The story will not be quite like Melancholy, and the Godgirl in both are pretty different. I hope it'll prove a good read regardless. I intend to dedicate all weekend to finishing the writing.

The premise more reminds me of a Christopher Pike novel called Sati: man meets woman claiming to be God... although no threat to end the world. And I have the impression that the underlying theme will be different. In any case, I'm interested to see where you take it!Applegate wrote: The story will not be quite like Melancholy, and the Godgirl in both are pretty different. No obligatory happy ending? Sign me up.
Do you have a word target, or are you just gonna see how far it goes?

I'll have to pick that up some time. For fear of spoiling (hah!), I can't really tell much more about the underlying theme right now. It's slightly supernatural though.arachni42 wrote:The premise more reminds me of a Christopher Pike novel called Sati: man meets woman claiming to be God... although no threat to end the world. I don't think either of the two endings will be at all happy, no. Like everything in life, there are things to be happy about and things that make you less happy. I'd file the endings under tragically happy and tragic. At its heart, Ens Causa Sui is a bit tragedic.saguaro wrote:No obligatory happy ending? Sign me up.
Just gonna see how far it gets. My longest work is around 3,800 words in Reaching Out, and it looks like Ens Causa Sui is going to take that number and surpass it. I aim to write a story as long as it needs to be, rather than go for a set reading time/wordcount─of course, I do tend to write a story shorter than it ought to be as I tend to think a story's complete just a bit faster than the average person... So hopefully choco will be able to tell me that, "No, you dolt, it's not done yet!" and get me to write it precisely right.Do you have a word target, or are you just gonna see how far it goes?

Random, love that book. Christopher Pike will always hold that special place in my heart.arachni42 wrote:The premise more reminds me of a Christopher Pike novel called Sati: man meets woman claiming to be God... although no threat to end the world. I don't think I have commented in this thread yet, so correcting it. It sounds like a great concept, the designs are interesting (God's a bit of a fashionista, heh) and I can't wait to read it.

Here's another update to dust off this thread! (And yeah, I tried to make her look kinda fashionable with the little knowledge of fashion that I have, lol.)

Another small update; it's Jack's sprite. :> (Yeah, I know, the feet are extremely derpy, lol.)

Re: Ens Causa Sui [Nano2013]
We've not been progressing as fast as we'd like. Between earning a living, writing this and doing research work, I have had to neglect one. We'll be extending the release date to mid-April tentatively, so we have more time to ensure quality and wrap up everything nicely.
We'll also have some time to make it prettier then.
Everyone wins, except the ones that wanted to read this 1st of April.
We'll also have some time to make it prettier then.

Re: Ens Causa Sui [Nano2013]
Well, keep at it. I personally thought the whole idea of NanoReno is kind of stupid. I mean, month is such a short time for a pastime project, it almost automatically means you'll end up butchering the idea or working on something decidedly compact. Sure, it's about telling yourself to get to it and all that, but why a month? why march? Okay, hopefully one gets the point. So, the stuff so far looks really promising, and no need to rush it.
Re: Ens Causa Sui [Nano2013]
Yeah, rushing things has never been my style. I'm confident we'll be able to release something more satisfactory if we give it more time, hence why we are. It's also helpful to enjoy the Easter weekend without worrying over rushing project Y.

Re: Ens Causa Sui [Nano2013]
I think Nano is just one way for some of us to motivate ourselves to take our ideas and make them into something we can show people, especially because it's a pasttime project. That being said, I sure don't blame anyone who wants to take more time! At this point I'm only aiming for a demo myself (though I got way farther along this month than I thought I would!).desulishor wrote:Well, keep at it. I think "God" here is absolutely adorable (Jack's not too shabby either; I like the style), so I will be continuing to follow this.

J, John is a placeholder name, but even choco is referring to him as Jack... W, was it a bad choice to use a generic name as placeholder?!arachni42 wrote:I think "God" here is absolutely adorable (Jack's not too shabby either; I like the style)

Re: Ens Causa Sui [Nano2013]
I've started to call him as Thomas, though!
Umm... So, just to update this a little bit again, here's a WIP of the first CG. (And the only one that I'll be showing, so, yeah!)

I always have a habit of making someone stick out their neck, orz. Will try to fix that.
And, here's 3 of the characters. (I had some difficulty in choosing Jenny's, ie. girl on far right, outfit colors and stuff. Go ahead and throw some suggestions to me if it's really bad, lol.)
