Multiple Error [Demo]

#1 Post by Azariah » Sat Mar 16, 2013 4:42 pm

Well you see, I've been afraid to show this to the people I know-except for my best friends of course- but I needed a handful of people to give me some feedback on what they think about this. Would someone mind testing this out? I just need comments or reviews or criticisms so that I can improve my game. Please do criticize. Even if it's harsh, I'll be fine. I'm used to it anyway. Please do try this out. :D It's pretty short and it'll take just about 3 minutes of your time. Hope you'll like it. It's quite hard to understand the humor, but I hope you'll appreciate it. :D Er, anyway here is a screenshot. :D

The download link isn't working for me, might try re-uploading it?

I took a look at the link and received this error message.

Same here! Hey Azariah, here are three persons willing to help. If you don't have success with Mediafire, I suggest you add your demo here as an attachment.

Oh! Sorry for your loss! :( Well ... you may try contacting Mediafire. Looks like someone reported your link as suspect, which it clearly isn't.

Now try to guess what just happened! I tried that link again ... and it worked! Looks like it was only "under investigation", as they say. I will return as soon as I finish playing your demo.

Okay, I'm back. The demo is too short for me to have a general idea about the story, but as an otome game (it is an otome game isn't it?) it looks very promising. The sprites are nicely done. Can't say much about the backgrounds, as I have seen only one  . The game looks very "classic" with its 800x600 resolution (I created a game with that resolution last year and had some rotten tomatoes thrown at me by people using those new massive resolution monitors. Personally I have nothing against 800x600 screens). This is a game I would like very much to play. I'm already thinking what will happen when
those girls, guy and spaghetti meet. Will the cooking have a good ending? Will things go wrong in the kitchen? Will that guy happen to be a chef de cuisine? So many funny possibilities!
So far only one oddity: when entering the house, Fyre says "Good afternoon.", but when he is about to leave he says "I might be disturbing your Sunday morning". Quite did not understand what time of the day was that (or I just cannot read English at all :) )

Some suggestions: it would give a nice effect if you could "move the camera" when a sprite enter the scene. It is a simple case of having the background a little larger than the screen, fiddling with the background xalign from 0.0 to 1.0 and using xoffset to move the standing sprites to the left or to the right at the same time.

You could save precious disk space and uploading time by using image composite to create your sprites as only their five facial expressions are changing.

Sometimes there is a lot of people on the scene at the same time. When we are new to the game it may be difficult to understand who is speaking (yes, I noticed the character who speaks has the facial expression changed). nyaatrap introduced a way to position a mini dialogue screen next to the character. Look here: http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewto ... 05#p258785
I haven't tried that code yet, but it looks great!

Well, I hope I have said something good. I'm still trying to have some sleep after NaNorenO! ...

LOL I didn't notice the oddity, thanks for telling me that! :D Anyway, thank you so much for the suggestions and criticism Donmai!! Your opinion is highly considered in the making of the game and I will surely try out the suggestions you gave me. :D Though the thing you suggest is something I haven't done before, I'll try my best to learn those stuff and I'm sure I'll tell you if I'm successful with it. :) Once again, thanks for everything and may God bless people like you! :D Anyway, goodluck with the result in NaNoreno!!! xD

Well, I was more than willing to give you some feedback; downloaded the story, and it won't open on my Mac.
