Seeking character artist (Unpaid)

#1 Post by Interitum » Wed Mar 20, 2013 6:28 pm

Hey all,
I just wanted to put this out there for the moment, I'm starting my first VN, and I need some character work done.
Currently, I'm between jobs, and on a break between quarters, so most of my time is spent on this.
But when I get back into full swing, production will probably slow down. SO, that being said, I don't have any money
to really offer, aside from a chunk of possible donations.

I'm currently solo'ing this project as the lead programmer/story writer, so you'd report immediately to me.
(And I don't bite! Usually.)
I've already come up with character descriptions for my three current characters, and if there's any questions, or details
I'm missing you can always ask me. Like I said, I just wanted to put this out there, since I've got a long ways to go before
I could even consider releasing this project. So you could have ALL the time you need!
(WOO! Tempting! I mean, no pressure? If I was you, I'd be like, "Wow wee, gee wilikers! I wish this guy was my boss!" Haha!
And you're right! I'm the best boss that could even exist! So yeah...you should...join my project...and stuff...)

Oh! And please get a hold of me via my email!
(It's under my MSN messenger)
Please excuse my lengthy post. I wanted to properly put my project status out there.

One final thing, feel free to read on the characters I have so far. (The display may not work all too well depending on your
resolution. But you could always just select all, copy, then paste it elsewhere.)

You may need to flesh out your system and plot more before you convince anyone to sign on. I read your character profiles, but nothing jumps out as immediately interesting plot-wise. What happens to these people? Why is this idea interesting?

Well, at the same time, I am in the very beginning of development. I'm doing my initial character introductions, program wise.
And that specific page I linked to, was character definitions to help give the characters more concrete detail. Earlier I had just
had mental images. Nothing to really say, "This is who she is, this is what she looks like, how she'll react, etc."

Since I'm the only one who is actually working on this project, I haven't actually written much down. Because it's all in mai noodle.
And, like I mentioned, this is really just a place holder. It's saying, "I have this idea, I know it's not much, but if you're immediately
interested, or just looking for something to do, I'm here!"

I wasn't really expecting any artists to jump on. But it'd be nice! I'd love to be able to see interpretations of my wording! As a first
time game creator, (but not first time programmer) I'm giddy just thinking about it! (Could just be the coffee with two espresso shots
talking, though. We'll find out.)

But I get what you're saying, and I appreciate it. There'll definitely be more detail released as I come up with it. Being a solo prog/writer
is a total mindfluff, right now.

Since you are doing the writing and programming, it might be a good idea to code a small demo using placeholder images to try garner interest from artists.

The way I got things moving when it was just me was approaching a writer with my concept in the form of a 10 minute demo, then worked with him to flesh out all the important details. The plot, the genre, the twists, the characters and full bios for them and finally how many sprites for each character we would need. THEN we started looking for an artist once everything else was fleshed out and we had something to show them.

Well, that could definitely be accomplished, I suppose.
Most of those points I already have figured out. The only thing I'm missing really, is a title, and every possible character
interaction that could take place. I just haven't brought myself to write out every little detail. I'm really rather if-y on that
kind of thing however. I could go into it, but that'd just waste space. In short, things flow less smoothly for me like that.

The only problem I'd have with place holders though, is worrying about somebody flippin out saying, "Hey! That's my character
from (whatever)! You can't use that! Blahblahblah".

But I definitely get what you mean. Suppose I'll have to work into doing that. But I might just do it when I'm like, 3/4 of the way
done.

I agree with Biomass and Kato over there, as an artist, I think I'd like to see a bit more of the story, or at least know the basic plot before I sign up of the job. The characters look interesting (I'm actually planning to draw them for you ), but what happens to them? Is it going to be a Slice-of-life linear VN that revolves around three girls? Or is this going to be a dating sim for guys? Or is this shoujo ai since all the characters seem to be all girls at the moment (joking! I think the dating sim for guys theme seems most likely )

Ah, btw, when I said I'd be drawing the characters I meant concept art, not the actual sprite. :D

Yeah, it's going to be a dating sim kind of VN. (Cookie for you!)
And since I seem to be getting an overwhelming, "Dood, you're doing this wrong." :P
kind of response, I'll write down my ideas. It'll be a bit, but just keep an eye on that
link, and you can read up on it.

And thank you! (About the characters) I was worried about my ability to fully quantify
my ideas of the girls in my head. Also, they're be at least two more, maybe.

And yeah, I figured as much! Regardless, if I could, I'd be bouncing off the walls from sheer
excitement! And caffeine. Caffeine good. Code monkey like.
