Pactum Dragoni [recruit, REALLY SHORT DEMO available]

#1 Post by stray_cat » Sun Jun 03, 2007 2:17 pm

Hi, i'm new here and i have my little project going on, but working alone is boring and/or tiredsam, so i thought it would be good to work with other.

You see, i normally write a novel  not in english though (but i can crudely translate it when someone want)

Anyways here is my project right now,

Name : Pactum Dragoni
Theme : Uhh... SRW and Star Wars together and a litte bit of, why ofcourse, Ren'ai
Story : "It's about people leaving earth to mars and now they're come back and find the earth overran by mythical creature. A boy name Belua made a pact with a talking dragon and now he will have to prevent other people who also have a pact like him from making another wars... a space wars!"
PS: Personally, i don't really want to explain all my story here, It sounds... corny! Anyway, it would be better if you play the demo
System : It's still a pure novel, so no choice just yet.

That's it, folks. If you're interest, give me a call at adam2799_@hotmail.com (MSN *Messenger* would be the best)

I won't be giving a demo here, sorry. And the demo is just up to the part where he NOT YET made a pact.

personalthing about me : I'm lazy and easily distracted as a cat, so if you want to work with me or me works for you, you've got to bears with me... Oh and one final REALLY important thing... my english sucks, I'm Thai
Another thing, If this doesn't interests you, i still have a bunch of incompleted Novel in my PC, so tell me if you want to hear me rumbling about it.

A good day to you

Hmmm... you might want to post a demo or sample of your work, so potential recruits know what is expected.

It's a bit hard for someone new to a forum to get people to sign up, we'd like to get to know you more. The most successful collaborative projects occur among people who already know each other's work habits and skills for some time. They also require a lot of dedication, many projects taking many months to complete.

Usually I'd discourage the first post to be a recruitment post (Honestly, I found it hard to formulate an answer here without seeming rude).

But you mention you're a writer, I have high hopes (writers tend to finish their stories, with or without good art).

Mmm, the fact it's SRW inspired sounds promising, always :)

to Da Fool : I don't think i can post a demo though. I'm using some anime music in it and isn't it against Copyright law? And you can flame me to your heart contents, Fire away! *ducks behind the table*

Well... I'm not a full fledge writer, i'm just a small time joke. But i do like to write the story though (in Thai, ofcourse) Translating, however, is the hardest part.

btw, this is a story i created on a whim, so it's still have many hole in it.
i might drop this one if no-one interest

I know my first post sound silly, well, i'm not in the right mood when i wrote them, actually.

to monele : Ka**ma inspired the main character (SRWW) and A**a the heroin. But story will be original (i think) and oh, there will be no robots... yet

Um, technically, unless the copyright holder complains, using for example, SRW music in an SRW fan game is acceptable. Or using Onegai Teacher music in an Onegai Teacher fangame. But using, for example, Final Fantasy music in a totally unrelated project is not. And you might want to avoid Star Wars resources and any western media whose copyright holder tends to be more anal.

Though we tend to avoid them, there *are* a few demos hanging around which have copyright resources. Just don't upload them as attachments (use rapidshare, megaupload, etc.) and don't advertise the links too much except in the specific thread "for educational purposes."

'Acceptable' in what sense, though? Regardless of whether the copyright holder complains, regardless of whether you're charging money or giving away the product, technically or no, using someone else's copyrighted material without explicit permission is illegal.

Maybe nobody minds, maybe it's considered socially acceptable, maybe you'll accept them into the RAA (I forget), but it's still against the law in any Berne-convention country, which is pretty much all of them.

You're right, at least according to the letter of the law. That being said, there seems to be a decent amount of precedent that fan-works are tolerated, and so I allow them in the RAA, provided the copyright holder has not indicated they are against fan-works.

(Fan works are getting to the point where they may have moved from "obviously illegal" to "unsettled law", according to some legal blogs.)

Yeah pretty much rules of RAA -> rules (not hardened in stone) for these forums.

Might be only me but I consider using placeholder copyrighted material isn't too big of a deal (yes... mainly because I've done this myself XD). It's really just to show something in the small confine of our community.

Mm. And myself, I don't have any problem with it - I just felt it was worth pointing out that 'acceptable' in this context didn't mean 'legally acceptable', it meant 'socially acceptable'. The use of the word 'technically' made it look to my eye like DaFool was suggesting it was legally sound.

(And I was under the impression that when people spoke about fan works being generally tolerated by copyright holders, it usually meant "using trademark characters and copyrighted designs and creating your own thing based on these" rather than "using copyrighted images and audio". Fanart, rather than projects making use of other people's media.)

I dunno. I mean, you look at youtube and the like, and you see fan-videos made using copyrighted material all the time, without much comment.
