has my artist dropped off?

#1 Post by Sailor Kitty »

I think my artist dropped out. I hears from her last at Sat Jun 23, 2007 2:15 am.

Then i sent a few PMs and I don't have her e-mail adress. I told her to reply to the last one but she hasn't. She doesn't seem to have been on in a while either.

Does this mean that she is out of the project?

if so, what should I do to find another artist?

It's not even a month yet... maybe wait a little more? But if you get absolutely no news by then, maybe it'd be good to prepare some backup ^^;

Ok....

It's been almost a month now. So how exactly should I search for backup?

I mean, what should be included in the message, what can wait, etcetera..?

(Or could any mod help me find her e-mail adress?)

Why I only work with people whom I can bother at their house ;) and maybe punch a few times.
Dysfunctional Systems
Juniper's Knot
Cradle Song, a visual novel in development
Memo, a visual novel

[02:49] <Komi> How is Dysfunctional Systems coming along?
[02:52] <Doomfest> have you seen prince of egypt
[02:53] <Doomfest> do you remember that scene with the storm of bugs
[02:54] <Komi> I know what you are talking about, but I can't remember the scene.
[02:54] <Doomfest> that is what it feels like
[02:55] <Komi> Personality conflicts on the team, I take it?
[02:56] <Doomfest> no
[02:56] <Doomfest> just bugs

OK a question for you....

Have you had no contact at all with the artist? NONE?

If you've had no contact at all with the artist, it's PROBABLY time to start searching for a new artist. Still keep in mind that the artist in question may show up, but if you haven't heard anything at all - not even a *Hi, I'm still here*....maybe time to look for a new artist.

Out of curiosity, who was your artist?

Assuming that your artist hasn't said anything at all, you can start searching now I think and feel OK about it. If you've made the attempts to keep in contact with Kira and she hasn't responsed at all, it's OK <I THINK> to ask for a new artist. Just keep in mind I myself an not an artist, and don't know what the norm is for *how long should you wait*. Well, artists here? What's the norm for total non communication before thinking *no longer associated with a project*?

I think it's more important that someone keep in touch a few times in several months rather than someone keep in daily contact for only a few weeks.

Things do almost always take up longer to make than expected. All the more for creating a visual novel where the attention span required for a project is in the order of months.

Heck, even if you were to pay artists, there would be quite some who would fall out and not deliver.

I'd say give two more weeks, but it's Sailor Kitty's call.

It's another advantage of working with source control for the project - even if you don't get to talk to the other people on the project, you can see how they're doing (and if they're doing anything) by looking in the repo to see what they've committed recently... ;-)

Personally, if I'd agreed to do art for a project, I'd be apologetic after a week or so of no communication - if I'd gone over a month for whatever reason I'd totally expect the project lead to have given up on me and found someone else; I'd certainly not be upset if they had.

I gather you've found a replacement artist anyway, though, Sailor Kitty?

It all depends on how long you want to wait. After all, in a company when people don't deliver on time they get fired.
Do as much as you can without the artist in the meantime.
A new artist can work on some of the stuff and if the old one contacts you in the meantime tell them your concerns and that you've already found a replacement if they want to drop out.
