JEdit 5.1 Testing

#1 Post by PyTom » Thu Jan 23, 2014 12:14 pm

For the next release of Ren'Py, I'll be upgrading the included JEdit to version 5.1. The Ren'Py language file will also be upgraded to include new keywords that have been added in the past few releases.

I've created a zip file containing the new version of JEdit. To test this out, rename the jedit directory in your Ren'Py install, then replace it with the jedit directory contain in the attached zip file.

I'm expecting things to just work, but I think I'd like feedback from JEdit users. Please let me know if it works or if you encounter problems, and I'll use that feedback to guide the 6.17 release process.

Thank you.

Cool, I'll give it a try. Thank you for all your work PyTom.

For now it seems to work properly.

Nothing to report so far. Strarted in my OS language so I've had to pick English from JEdit's options, previous version never behaved that way.

I was already using JEdit 5.1 :p

I haven't had any problems with it, but I guess if there's new Ren'py syntax to grab, that'll be worth checking out.

Oh well, I guess there was one minor problem... the built-in Plugin Manager seemed broken in 5.1. Every time I tried to install something, it just said to try another mirror (what mirrors?). But I don't really need plugins to use it for basic Ren'py editing.

I don't know, offhand. There have been 3 major versions (4.4, 5.0, 5.1) since the version we're upgrading from, so I assume something has changed.

http://www.softpedia.com/progChangelog/ ... 42189.html

has the details. On the Ren'Py side, I updated the syntax file to include new keywords and properties.

Thank mercy, we are finally getting a new JEdit update for Renpy!
That horrid Editra hasn't taken over yet!
Much Appreciated for those who took the Survey!

I use Jedit, it works better than Editra. The UI and text appearance are just more polished. 5.1 seems to work fine for me.

I was the first to download it yesterday, and since then I'm using it in the final editing of Toire no Hanako. The interesting is that this is a multilanguage game. In the past, I had to quit using Editra because it had serious problems when editing non-English text (it was frequently "forgetting" that a file was created with UTF-8 encoding).
I can say this version of jEdit is doing great. No problems so far.
