Trouble with adding character images

#1 Post by scorlight »

Well, I draw a character with paint tool sai and save it under .jpg with these selections
http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/xx29 ... 615541.png
The image does show when I launch my game. However, I have these problems:
1) Only the arm is showed because the image is too big. How can I know the right size of a character image (CI) and how can I save the CI with the right size?
2) The scene totally covered by the white background of the CI (I didn't paint the CI background)
3) The CI is laid horizontal instead of vertical. How can I rotate it? @@

Please help me if you know the answer, thank you :)

The white background is because you saved it as a .jpg, jpg/jpegs don't have transparent capabilities so they just fill in any transparency with white. If you want a transparent background you'll need to save it as a PNG, but I don't think SAI can do that.

You also have to manually resize the character sprite to fit your games resolution, same with rotating the sprite. Ren'Py can do these things for you using coding but you really should just make the images how you want them in the drawing program of your choice.

Fortunately, SAI has PNG ^^
As for size and rotate, do you recommend any programme? Because when i try to resize with PAINT, the picture lines became broken (I'm not sure how it's called)

SAI does have png, I use it myself. But only certain versions (read:not pirated) can save transparency.
As for rotating and resizing, SAI has that too, and use that to scale and rotate my own works too. Can you post a screencap of what you mean by 'broken'?

Yeah, it is like this. See? Broken!
By rotating in SAI, it is not these two right? They are only temporary used when drawing
Resize by SAI... umm.... I know the "canvas size" tool but it only resizes the canvas, not the picture

If you're rotating a whole canvas, you're probably looking for this:
Image

As for rotating just part of an image, you'll want to press CTRL + T to enter the Transform tool, which will let you scale and rotate things. The reason you're seeing the weird pixelation is because you're not actually rotating the image, SAI is just giving you a low-res preview of what it would look like if it was rotated.

Woah, great! I see how it works :D Thanks a bunch ^^
So the only problem left is resizing, I noticed a tool "Image size" about the "Canvas size", is that the resize tool for image? And what is the correct size for it? I know that the scene's size should be aound 1280x720px O_o

I'd say change the height to be about 1250 px personally.
