Indie Visual Novel Icebound Available Today!

Even though it’s officially spring, Icebound will have you heading into the tundra on PC, Mac and Linux platforms. This visual novel from the indie game studio Fastermind Games, username SundownKid, is launching today! Trek into the frozen fantasy world of Permia where alchemists rule the snow barren wasteland.

Oh hey, I pre-ordered this and was expecting an email when it finally came out. I wouldn't have known about the release if I hadn't seen this thread. You might want to check into whatever notifications you have set up for pre-orders.

Anyway, I loved the demo and I'm really excited to finally play the whole thing!

I'll see about sending notifications myself, then. Right now I'm working on patch 1.01, after that's uploaded I will notify everyone who bought the game so far.

If you preordered the game via the Humble Store (iceboundgame.com), you should be able to login to the Humble Bundle website and find it in your list of games. If you got it via Kickstarter you should have received a key by email letting you redeem the game there.

Icebound 1.01 is out. We highly recommend that everyone who already downloaded the game re-download and install version 1.01. Your saves should be safe, but if you want to back them up they are located in the game folder, Icebound > game > saves.

P.S. We have included a set of free Icebound backgrounds with every game. You can also find this file in the game folder.

There are 3 endings that you can get based on alignment and one alternate earlier ending. I think I will put up an FAQ soon in case people are interested.

Sorry about that oversight, I will update the other demo links to make sure they go to the current one.

However, the demo link on the homepage still works fine for me. It's a regular zip file that should unzip with any unzipping program.

Had played the Icebound demo on my mac several times and found it enjoyable, so yesterday I paid for and downloaded the complete game. Started from where the demo left off and continued to the end - not an easy or quick feat! This is an intriguing game, with many a twist and turn to the plot! I clicked through, probably too fast, but I wanted to get at least one ending. Having done that I will now return and venture through in a more leisurely fashion, so that I can fully appreciate just how good it is. Gonna take me a few days (or weeks) to do that.

One small problem I have is that I am not much of a puzzle solver, so I aborted the puzzles as I went through. I am really more interested in the story rather than having to "think hard" and spend time being frustrated trying to solve a puzzle. Unfortunately, doing that does appear to have a negative effect on the MC's performance, so at some point I am going to have to sit down and figure out how to successfully solve the #@*& puzzles.

That aside, this is a wonderful game; the characters, the art, the dialog - I like all of it. An Excellent job, and I am looking forward to many revisits to the story.

While it outwardly does have some er... negative consequences, finishing the puzzles or not doesn't affect the ending in a major way - I didn't want to take away content just because people didn't want to solve the puzzles. Though, I believe that you will have to complete some of the puzzles to unlock the Order and Chaos endings.
