Yaruge or Teen-rated project?

#1 Post by DaFool » Thu Sep 20, 2007 10:57 am

Ah, s___ it.

The joys of anonymous voting. If you haven't seen any of my works / don't really care about my works, please don't vote so it won't get skewed. (edit: except if you are a potential audience should I come up with a topic that fits your tastes.)
Thank you.

I need to gauge my audience, since I don't just want to give an outlet for creative energy, I want to entertain as well.

No clue what yaruge means, sorry. But anyway I'd prefer you spending your time on something you really like to do. That said, I like romance more than 18+ (although one doesn't exclude the other). But if the romantic option is the classical school romance, then I'd rather take 18+, thank you. ^_^

yaruge is the "do it" genre of ADV/visual novels in Japan. The other end of the spectrum is the true "Visual Novel" (full screen text, narrative-centric).

Yaruge was the most common type of eroge localized to English, and it still is the most common genre offered as downloadables as well as in cheap packages (~800 to 2500 yen).

It's something I've always wanted to make, and have made already to some extent (although not with original art).

------------

Light romance, hmmm, I have less plot delegated to this, so it might take time to have enough plot to be able to craft a solid story. It is still a high consideration, and might make up making a separate game for this. (The current tally is almost 50/50 even split).

Even though the light romance will be rated Teen, naturally I won't be doing a school romance, rest assured. Characters will at least be college-aged.

Thanks for voting.

Just to let you know I have decided to do both (Just received a eureka moment for a nice plot / gameplay, so I could apply that to the yaruge project, and the original plot can be made lighter and applied to the tean project). I'll have to plan the specs again so that the time 'budget' I used to allocate for one project can be used for two (plus some additional work on another project).

The yaruge would have to be priority since it requires more logistics and post-release maintenance. The teen project, I can just safely release to the winds of the interweb with abandon, so it will be last.

I'm not quitting just yet!

Update... not that I actually did much other than more thinking and planning... this is to ensure that once I get down to business it will be smooth sailing.

The teen project has now been streamlined into an All-Ages project and will be released under the Chibi Goddess label (magbou.visualnews). I'm thinking it may need some additional programming, but I won't ask for help until the script has been fully plugged into Ren'Py. (monele:PM.) Suffice to say I aim for this to be a very fun game. Not to mention I can save some time and get better music by grabbing CC-licensed stuff (gomenasai Kevin Macleod-san).

The adult project has been stripped of extraneous stuff and will be more or less a molestation sim. WTH, yes, I know. I know it's risky but I'm confident once I get it out I can close the book on this need for self-expression and can continue to be a responsible citizen and member of society. Just like the other stuff I've written -- even if it's just internet self-publishing -- as long as I got it out of my system, I can close the book and move on.

I'm glad that my ideas come in the forms of themes and concepts -- they're easy to mix and match and repackage. If they were tied to specific characters, I wouldn't know how to proceed.

Uuuurgh... not really accomplishing anything at all yet...

My hikikimori days are numbered (they'll last until March next year at the most -- that's less than 6 months!), so I might not have time to devote fully for 2 projects, especially with one of them being a professional-quality eroge.

So I'm doubling back on previous decisions, and merging the projects yet again (combining themes and concepts into a single story). Good, now I only need to come up with one title.

I also lost the drive to make a straight-up yaruge, since it will be too much effort for something too risky.

The single project will now be classified as EE for 'Extreme Ecchi'. Lots of oppai and pantsu and sexual reference and allusion, but not straight up H. There will be stretches of story which will be all-ages, but of course will go back to adultish themes, so might as well make it Teen (but rilly risque). It will be the equivalent of the WOWOW R-15 rating, sort of.
