Tile and Unit Engine Still Relevant?

#1 Post by noeinan »

I've been looking into making a game with an isometric map and someone on another thread recommended the Tile and Unit Engine here: http://www.renpy.org/wiki/renpy/doc/coo ... it_Engines

But I notice this was made for Ren'Py 6.6-- and we're now on 6.17, so that was almost ten releases ago. Does anyone know if this code is still relevant, or if there is a newer way of doing this? Much appreciated!

[EDIT] Looks like it isn't currently compatible with Ren'Py-- if anyone has newer code resources that they would like to share I would still greatly appreciate it, though. :)

I'll put my hand up for interest as well.

The #renpy IRC channel is a great place to chat with other devs. Due to the nature of IRC and timezone differences, people probably won't reply right away.

If you'd like to view or use any code from my VN PM me. All code is freely available without restriction, but also without warranty or (much) support.

No longer relevant. Chronoluminaire quit game-making and I doubt he's going to go back to it since he has his own family to take care of.

Better just go with Jake's Battle Engine, which is the spiritual successor, and is compatible with modern renpy.

Compatible, but to use it with commercial games involves profit sharing. Not everyone would like to do that, especially if there is an alternative.

Well, I would suggest talking to DesertFox. There is a lot of links here about her efforts to make that old engine work again. Here are some:
