The Main Point
"People that do an otherwise fun activity at an expert, competitive level have to engage with it in a very different way than others who are not counting on it as their primary income. This is true for athletes, singers, hot dog eating champions, painters, eSports players, and dancers."
"It’s true for making videogames, too."
An interesting article (Do I want to do this for a living?)

Re: An interesting article (Do I want to do this for a livin
Personally, I don't plan nor want to make games as a career, unless I could live comfortably off of indie game revenues. What I'm mainly interested in is making independent games, and working as a park bench modeler for the next multi million dollar EA game production doesn't float my boat.
In addition, even if you get to a directorial position in a major game production and aren't stuck making games you don't care about, you still likely won't have as much creative control as an indie game developer. You would be forced to change the game based on executive decision, focus groups and the preferences of other team members. I like the auteur freedom of indie games.

I don't want to make VNs as a career, haha. I highly doubt it would be profitable, and at this point, I'm more interested in perpetuating my middle class (the official one haha) lifestyle than, uh. Enjoying my job. + I'd like to retire before I die, thankyouverymuch.
