Re: Regeria Hope [Mystery], [Female Lawyer] DEMO - Updated 1

This was a really fun game. I'm looking forward to seeing more of it. Specifically:

1. First impressions? Who do you think the murderer is, and why? Can you figure out the motive yet?
It was a lot of fun to play! I love how you've embraced the idea of creating an absurdly overblown court.
And that waiter looks a lot like the ex-girlfriend...
2. Is the game easy enough to understand how to play? Were there parts of the GUI you tripped up on?
Mostly it was pretty straight forward. I did have a bit of trouble figuring out how to present evidence though. Because you don't always have the option to present evidence to took me a few tries to work it out. At first I tried "interrupting" figuring that would then give me options as to what kind of interruption I needed to make. I went through the first dialogue cycle a few times before I figured it out.

3. Did you like being able to skip the tutorial sections by saying you didn't need help?
Yes, that was a great idea.

4. Were the testimony rebuttal sections too hard? Too easy? Just right?
Other than what I mentioned for question 2 everything made sense and flowed well.

1. Classic but still captivating plot. I've never been good at solving mysteries but
I think the girl in the picture with the victim is the murderer.
2. Yes, I had no issue navigating. Although, I feel the GUI would look better with a different font, it is very nice stil.

3. Yeah, although I looked at the tutorial just to make sure I understood how to use it (as the functions were likely to be different from PW, but they weren't which made things pretty easy!)

4. I think they were just right, except I don't find much use for the timer. I'm the type to make three million save slots, so it won't affect my gameplay much as I would personally just redo the sections. Although, I understand why it's implemented, because it may be easier than a "penalty" or "strike" system, like in PW.

Some things about the writing:
- I felt like the "Gawd" at the beginning wasn't very tasteful writing. Perhaps "gosh" or "goodness" would sound better
- There are some quite poorly placed commas, i.e. "So did, you remember to read over the Case Files, last night?" There isn't a need for commas there. Also, the way "Case Files" is capitalized, it seems like a special game term, so maybe it should be italicized?
- This is more of just one of my nitpicky things, but "ok" might look better changed to "okay."
- "The waiter brought the wine up for Victoria and I" should be "Victoria and me."
- More than 3 ellipses ( ... ) doesn't look very nice.
Overall the writing and formatting is a little distracting for me, just because I pay a lot of attention. I don't know how other players might react, but I still think it could use come cleaning and polishing. ;)
In its entirety-- this is a great plot! Good dialogue and character interaction, nice art, simple but interesting plot and most importantly... intelligent and pretty female protag! Yay!!! Okay, certainly that isn't most important, but it is what interested me here. Can't wait to see more.
What's in a loop? A loop iterated in any other way would output as sweet.

Thanks very much for the feedback Flowers from Nowhere and meiri, I appreciate you taking the time to write it out!

I'll see if I can make the first rebuttal more clear with the way to present evidence, it is hidden behind a few buttons.

I like the idea of having the timer move down at the same time as the confidence, thanks for the inspiration meiri. I've changed the font, but it's very similar to the system font... Having a hard time finding a good one for reading on a screen

Thanks for the editing notes meiri, it's tough to really look at my own writing and figure out how it looks. I'll fix that right up!

Very glad you both enjoyed the story! Let me know if you want to be beta testers and I can send you the beta version! I might have a phone version ready by this weekend as well.

I'm fan of Ace Attorney series so I'm hyped for this :D Female prosecutor lead, that's nice :D (although I kinda prefer male lead, teheee)
I'm sure the system is pretty complicated, I can't imagine how I build this kind of system myself (except there is some template/tutorial I can follow, but I haven't researched into it). The sprites are absolutely gorgeous and it's enough to be on commercial level. The GUI needs some improvement but I'm sure you can do it!

I'm rooting for you :D

I'd love to be a beta tester.
I am curious though-- are you working on this project by yourself?

Thanks Tiya and Meiri!

Tiya, that's very high praise, thanks very much! What kinds of changes would you like done to the the GUI? Is it stuff like images moving around, or general placement?

Meiri, I'm the only coder working on this. A lot of the code for the GUI I was able to tweak from code I found online, but it's mostly my own work. If you want to PM me, I'll add you to the list of beta testers.

Might have a demo ready for the Android soon. I'll see how hard it is to set up an Android play account.

I'm a huge fan of the Ace Attorney series myself, so, naturally, this looks super interesting to me and I just had to try it out:

1. First impressions? Who do you think the murderer is, and why? Can you figure out the motive yet?
I really love the art style and the character designs! I also loved the characters' personalities. They're all pretty funny. Definitely had a fun time reading this!
At first I was worried a little about the timer, since I really hate time limits, but... I quickly realized it's not that much of a problem, actually.
At least so far, it's been more than enough time.
As for the murderer...
unless there are some other characters involved we haven't seen yet, the waiter is currently the most likely suspect. Not too sure about the motive. I suspect the waiter either is the other woman from the picture or at least related to her, so the motive will probably have to do with the past of Brock's late wife and the stuff he mentioned near the end of the demo.

2. Is the game easy enough to understand how to play? Were there parts of the GUI you tripped up on?
The GUI seems fine so far. Didn't really have any problems with it. As for the gameplay, it's pretty easy to understand. At least if you're familiar with Ace Attorney games, you immediately know how everything works, so that there isn't even a need for a tutorial.
Not sure how people might feel about it who never played an Ace Attorney game before, but I still think it shouldn't be too hard to understand.

3. Did you like being able to skip the tutorial sections by saying you didn't need help?
Yep. As I said above, I didn't really need an explanation, so being able to skip it and get right on with the story was nice.

4. Were the testimony rebuttal sections too hard? Too easy? Just right?
Definitely not too hard. I always knew immediately which statement to choose and which evidence to present, so I guess it might have been a little too easy. But since it's the first case, that's fine. I wouldn't mind it getting a lot harder later on, though.

Anyway, overall, I really enjoyed this! Keep up the good work!

Thanks Gospel!

I've finished flying from the US to Australia for my brother's wedding, so there will probably be a new version of the beta test game available soon. Thanks to everyone for their feedback so far, and I'll PM all beta testers very soon, along with a change list so you know what to look for.

If you want to be a beta tester, just PM me, and I'll add you to the list.

Only one week to go until the full version is out! So exciting! If beta testers have anything to add, this week is pretty much the last time to do it.

How do I move this post from "Works in Progress" to "Completed Games"? I can't find anything anywhere.
