Thank you!
And actually that's the girl's hand wrapped around his shoulder, I guess it's hard to tell. Go me :/
edit; that being said, this is still a wip so any corrections are a-okay

Re: MaiMai's Art Thread [Critique Appreciated]
More soft CGing practice/indulgent art. I probably won't post the whole piece here.
Some notes: part of the lineart was done in Manga Studio 5 with some pencil brushes I downloaded. It's decent, but I'm so slow with Manga Studio so I gave up and drew the rest in SAI.
edit; updated with the complete version

A rather horrific piece. Fate/Zero was such an anime full of happiness...
This is definitely different from what I usually draw and it was a fun challenge! Maybe I could do a horror VN haha.

Re: MaiMai's Art Thread [Critique Appreciated]
I like your recent pieces
Some advice: I've noticed most of your characters are drawn at an angle less than 45°. Now I'm seeing two evident problems with the faces of these characters,
1. You tend to use a straight line for the far side of the face. It should have curves for the cheek, the brow and the forehead
2. The mouth needs to move in the opposite direction from the direction the face is turning in, and also get kind of cropped off at the far end. I see you do that, but not enough.
The above two issue make your faces look a little "flat". I've been noticing this for a long time, but I decided to hold back until I could properly word my critique. Today I was looking through your works again, your new ones especially, and it was suddenly clear as day to me
Also, I see you've been using textures lately. I would suggest erasing some parts, redrawing/painting over portions, rotating them around etc. to make them mesh in with your art.
Other than that, I'm liking the colouring in your recent works. You're making significant improvement, keep it up

Yeah, I default to that certain face angle too much. If you're able, could you redline the faces so I can visualize what you mean better by cheek curve and such?
Thanks for everything else though!

Of course, that's what I should have done in the first place. It would also help to paint a shadow on the other side of the nose. It will add a little 3-dimensionalityMaiMai wrote:Yeah, I default to that certain face angle too much. Re: MaiMai's Art Thread [Critique Appreciated]
Been busy with school and commissions so I haven't had much time to try more dynamic compositions and positions lately. Here's a piece from Tumblr where I was testing out a new brush setting in SAI.

Oh, that’s a cute picture! Love the mood it gives.
Some quick notes:
- Right hand index finger is long and bent unnaturally.
- Face looks flat, compared to other aspects of image - cast shadows of her nose, under the brow if you want it to be cell-shadesesque, a vague highlight on her forehead (where it meets the brow) if you don’t.
- Might look better if it had a clearer light source, esp. if it’s above-in front of her - light gradients so its lighter on the higher parts of her body, eg face, top plane of hair, and darker on the lower parts, eg forearm.
- Hands are a bit small - the length of the tip of middle finger to palm doubled is longer than the forearm
I reckon you could make the lighting more dramatic, and have green swirly thing emit light as a secondary light source, even?
But nevertheless - good job!

Re: MaiMai's Art Thread [Critique Appreciated]
Thank you! For me, things I need to learn is to draw feet more properly and really, REALLY make sure I make some decent anatomy. Which I did for the most part, so me spending so much time on the base body was good character building.
There's definitely going to be more clothes coming...
