Hey everyone! I have a quick question about the Ren'Py engine before I dive headfirst into any major projects.
This has probably been asked a lot... but how crazy can you get with the Ren'Py engine? Are you limited by anything other than advanced programming skills? For instance, can you add visual effects to your game? Like say... you want to have falling leaves or sparkling stars in the background. Or a flashing screen to indicate that an alarm or an explosion is going off. Stuff like that?
If it's possible to do this kind of stuff, even if it's through a ton of hoops, I'd be willing to learn how. Thanks for any advice with this!
Ren'Py visual effects?

Re: Ren'Py visual effects?
Falling leaves is possible via SnowBlossom, sparkling stars is probably best done by ATL animation, and flashing screen can easily be done using ATL. So yes, all of those are feasible in a not that hard way.

Awesome! Thanks for the reply and information!

Re: Ren'Py visual effects?
As sundownkid said, these things are indeed possible. You might want to download the engine and play through the Tutorial game...it has a lot visual effect in it so you can get a good sense of what sorts of things are possible.
A Close Shave:
*Last Thing Done (Aug 17): Finished coding emotions and camera for 4/10 main labels.
*Currently Doing: Coding of emotions and camera for the labels--On 5/10
*First Next thing to do: Code in all CG and special animation stuff
*Next Next thing to do: Set up film animation
*Other Thing to Do: Do SFX and Score (maybe think about eye blinks?) Check out My Clock Cookbook Recipe: http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewto ... 51&t=21978
