[PROOFREADER][BUSY]

Why me?
Because let's face it, you need someone to catch all those mistakes, the ones that everyone else missed.

Why so short?
I'll let the results do the talking.
And there will be results.

Hello, I need proofreading for a story called "Two Days, Door-to-door" which is based on an article from consumerist. It's a true story written by Kole McRae and I got consent to make a web adaptation. You receive credit as proofreader.

Edit: Work fulfilled.

Advice huh? I can't guarantee I'll be able to help.
But sure, go ahead and send me what you have, I'll go over it.

Uh, is this a joke? Like 60% of your edits contain errors, many of them in cases where there were none before. Do you know what a comma splice is?

It isn't a huge deal if your writing contains occasional, minor errors. But when you are specifically advertising yourself as a proofreader, there's no excuse. You probably should not be taking on the task of an editor if you can't perform the job.

No jokes here. You know, that's the first I hear anything about errors.
Although I will admit that I've never been quite comfortable about where to place commas.
If you have anything constructive to tell me, specific corrections or suggestions, please do.
Otherwise you're just throwing dirt in my face, and nobody is gaining anything.

He did provide a specific correction.

Here's a starting page for rules on comma usage: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/607/02/

If you read through this page, it should explain the mistake you made in the very beginning of your topic.
Why me?
Because let's face it, you need someone to catch all those mistakes, that everyone else missed.

I'm not sure how that qualifies as a specific correction. It looks more like a general direction to me.
Though, after looking around I see what he's talking about.

I'm not sure if I really should care about comma splices, considering a lot of works around don't have good spelling, or continuity, let alone proper structure.
But I recognize the problem and I will try to be more weary.

Now, let's stop on my sentence for a moment and analyze it.
We have a conjoined non-essential element, followed by the essential element, interrupted by a stylistic pause.
Okay, I guess strictly speaking that last comma is excessive. That's the problem, correct?
But it's there for effect. So is it really that problematic?

Yes. The story is prose, not a script. You do not use a comma to denote a pause in any medium where someone is directly reading your work.

Alright, how do you propose I should denote pauses?
