The folder /usr/share/games/renpy/lib/ really does not exist.

You're not using the official Ren'Py, downloaded from http://www.renpy.org/. Linux distros tend to remove a lot of Ren'Py when they package it, and so you wind up having this sort of problem.

it seems so...any idea why they remove it?

They have policies, like not distributing things like windows programs, that Ren'Py proper doesn't comply with.

Um... does the mentioned directory exist? This is the sort of error you'd get if Ren'Py can't create the zip file.

I have never used OSX, but does your system have .zip file support?

This is a pickling problem. Chances are, it means you're creating a function in a python block, rather than init python block.

Probably the best way to diagnose this is to add the code:

    config.use_cpickle = False
    config.save_dump = True

to your game, save, and then post the error message and save_dump.txt.
