Map creator/generator and advice

#1 Post by Emiya24 »

So i was on the process of making maps for my game xD
and thinking back i had failed multiple times

i thought to myself "would there have been easier ways"

so now here i am looking for other devs or artist who might have made painstaking mistakes in map designing or failed more than once haha

can you guys give any tips or advice to a startup like me
any map making software will be very appreciated to D:

I assume from your screenshot you're talking about a world map graphic/diagram, as opposed to a tiled navigable map, right?

I've seen Campaign Cartographer (https://secure.profantasy.com/products/cc3.asp) recommended although it is paid software and I've never used it myself.

Yes, this one is just a map graphic but almost all my stories are so focused on geography (fantasy, war, adventure) that i might eventually make a tiled navigable map too for my other VNs and RPGs
so im just collecting possible resources and advice from seniors

thanks for referring me the CC3 software xD it looks promising
It might be worth saving up for it

I follow http://imgur.com/gallery/ZrG8J as a general how-to when making a map like yours

Knowing this earlier would have saved me so much time and frustration .-.

I used to do a lot of maps for games etc. I did have a full custom set of brushes I used for maps but I seem to have lost most of them in a dead-computer. However my recent ones are in the attached file. They're all made by me (I think) so feel free to use for whatever.

There aren't many here and they are for modern/future tactical type things but they might be of use.

I'll check my backup HD if I get chance and see if I have my old ones kicking about anywhere.

Edit: Oh, and a Tan Internal Stroke & Inner-Glow set to multiply with a tan/hazel colour, then an dark-blue Multiply Outer-Glow - I've found is a good way to apply an ink effect to coastlines. Both inner and outer glows should be set to fade away. If that all make sense?
