As someone who is...slightly... obsessed with Mystic Messenger at the moment, I approve this thread. Your art is quite lovely!

Nice collection you have here~ :3
Your lineart is clean and neat, though the inking looks fading in some parts (perhaps different ink pigmentation between pen vs marker?)

Btw, I wonder why was the girl pouting... :D

omg!! you have a really great eye for detail!! yesss, i do use different pens to shade in large areas. wowow! BRILLIANT. but ahh// i'm still a newbie to traditional artwork. just bought pens for the first time on oct. 1 ahahaha. IF YOU HAVE ANY TIPS THAT WOULD BE AWESOME <3

and hehe, the girl is pouting because in the game (Mystic Messenger) she hates cats, but i made her have cat ears. XD eehehe

Oh, so that's the reason... >_<

About the tips... hm... what kind of tools do you use?
If you use convenient drawing pen (not nib pen), "Sakura Micron" will give you a darker pigment than "Pilot" or "Snowman" (not sure if these brands exist in your country). If you use dip pen, you could choose "maru-pen" (round tip pen) for making the thinnest line (though you could accidentally cut the paper if you're not careful). For blocking with regular brush, you could use indian ink (sometimes called document ink) instead of using standard drawing ink. You could also use "fude-pen"; it's something like a marker, but with brush tip.

As for me, I used to use photoshop's level adjustment to make the black part of my comic page looks uniform.. so it doesn't really matter if I use low quality ink/pen.

o-omg!! that was a lot of amazing information. thank you so much! ; O ;!!

ahhh but everything sounds so complicated. i-i'm not sure what is a dip pen or nib pen. are they the types of pens that you need to put into an ink container first? fml... i'm a very, very slow learner sorry-- T ~ T i just saw lots of pretty pens.. so i just chose random ones!! ackkk. These are what i'm currently using:

Do any of them look familiar to you? ^^;;

p.s. sorry for the messy desk. x_x;; currently working on my next piece haha

Well... their shape looks familiar to me, but the only brand I can recognize there is Staedtler... :D

And yes, you use dip pen by dipping it into an ink container (hence the name). It has interchangeable nib which you need to replace after a period of time. The nib pen has different types, and the most common used are G-pen, Maru-pen and Spoon-pen. G-pens are especially popular among manga artist, as they can easily make a modulated line with it.

Another tip about inking : you can do it digitally. So... instead of painstakingly stroking a large area in your drawing with a brush or whiteboard marker, you could just put an "x" sign on it and then fill it later using photoshop.

that makes so much sense! thank you so much for explaining everything to me. you're so wonderful and kind. ; w ; <3

and ahh-- yes! i actually do all digital artwork. i started traditional inking for the first time in october because my friends convinced me to try inktober! i hope to go back to digital soon. = w =;; ehehe

i will definitely have to look into those pens you mentioned! especially since i'm interested in making a manga some time soon. c:

also! newest work i just finished (the one you can see from my pen picture above XD):

She's cute~ :3
Somehow the back shading looks rather blue than black... was it intentional?

And I'm looking forward to read your manga. :)
