Real Free music

#1 Post by AngelicCarrot »

(Note, I am not any of these artists, but I really wanted to share this with my fellow free music hunters)

Yo. I know free music is hard to find now a days, but I've hit some good sites.

There's a LOT more free music on Japanese websites, all you have to do is credit (which is a LOT better than paying 24 bucks for a single licensed song on those stingy American companies)

Here's some links, with some descriptions of what kind of music is there. ^__^ Note these are in the original Japanese, but if you can translate through Google if you want to.

http://sam-free.com/songs.html - SAM Music

Really good stuff, lots of good background music, there's Vocaloid songs too, but I think you have to have a Muzie account to download.

Music-box, cute stuff. ^^ Looks like it was made by a cat lover.

HOLY CHEEZITS I love this site. xD It has lots of cute fun music, mp3 AND midi, and KICKARSE sound effects. The selection isn't huge, but it's still updated once in a while so there will be new material popping up.

http://piano78.roco.jp/yukitoshi_bgm.html
Some VERY high-quality stuff here. Not a ton of BGM, but still it's very good. If you migrate back to the front page, there are also good sound effects.

http://www51.tok2.com/home/musicatelierken/page002.html

More good stuff. Again, not a lot. xD

This is all for now, I had another great site to put up but it won't load. 3: Maybe they're down, it was working earlier, ah well. Remember, most of this music is NOT free for COMMERCIAL use, so if you're planning selling your game, I suggest not using these.
I translated these pages with google, and what I read with most was that they were free, so I see no problem with it. If you do though, please tell me so I'm not misleading anyone, or myself. ><

By the way, if you look at the links sections (when you find them, unless you translate) there should be MORE links to other music sites and listings, not all may be free though. ^^

Hard rock or no rock, and appropriate to my game or not, I am indebted to you greatly...
Kah! Was that even good English?
:dies:

Mmm. I'll edit this post and add some more "free" music sites that I find...
  • Musopen — Full of free recordings of public domain classical music. It's probably not what a lot of people here are looking for, but whatever. There's bound to be someone on here that needs this.
  • (: jmtr :) — His stuff is licensed under a Creative Commons (Attribution) License. His works are getting better and better... Though some of them are a little weird (that's good though!) Like Moon Melody.
  • Incompetech — I'd've listed him sooner but I was feeling greedy. This guy has a lot of stuff; he goes into a broad range of genres. Also, never go to the homepage/index of this site. It'll take forever to load... (;-_-) Licensed under Creative Commons (Attribution).
  • TESLAKITE — The conditions say "you may use [the files] only for non-commercial purpose." From the same dude you brought you Paranoia Agent's and the Paprika's soundtrack. :p That's a good thing, right? Vocaloid is what he uses a lot, I think... Oh, and he is a GOD.
  • Songs Against the Carnage — Songs composed by Hirasawa Susumu (same guy as above). Anti-war stuff! :3 Only for non-commercial purposes. Unfortunately there's not a lot of songs. (T_T) I'll tell you what: "Love Song" could make for a kick-ass ED. If it weren't so long...

:scours ze interwebs to find ze hard rock:
Hard rock, bwahaha!
Takeharu Ishimoto...

I just Google the URL and click [Translate this page] next to the search result.

Also, I've added these to the Community Wiki in alphabetical order.

And I still can't find any Rock or Hard Rock BGM anywhere... Unfortunately, it seems like Takeharu Ishimoto doesn't have his own site. (T_T) Oh, and I'm too nervous to ask Jim Lang if the tracks that are up for download can be used for non-com purposes and whatever. (._.)

You can try TMPGEnc, for free for fourteen days. It was the most used tool, until it became commercial, but it's very reliable.

If you are familiar with encoding tools, the best solution is to use Virtualdub.
There are several versions of this tool, Nandub, Virtualdub Mod and Avidemux.

If you're working under winXP or vista, Virtualdubmod is the best solution. It supports several media flux and containers, like ogm and mkv.
Avidemux is for windows, mac os, linux and bsd.

It's best you searched around for the settings you should set on tutorial sites along with the tool you're intending to use, it depends on the kind of video you're intending to create.

This is only MPG converting, though. >3<; I need something to create a nice opening with, WMM won't cut it and I'm too poor to afford the good programs. ;~;

I don't think there ARE any good freeware editors. I use Sony Vegas, but that's only 'cause my dad went on a desperate video editor buying binge looking for a program to merge videos (aka Windows Movie Maker...). It's easy to use, and cheap enough, I think. I don't know about FREE, though.
