Main Girls:

Image
[Nanami]
Watercolor, acrylics, sketching… Nanami is a true artist at heart. She is compassionate, kind, focused, and she is always willing to help others. However, her parents had casted a burden on her. Just thinking about it pains Nanami inside; she just wants to be free from the pain and pressure that surrounds her… Despite always being willing to help others, she hates being told what to do, mostly because of the amount of demands her parents make to have her do stuff around the house as well as being told she can’t follow her dreams. Being told what to do brings out a kind of rude side to her. Her “escape” is her art as it helps her put her mind at ease and be able to focus on something that she can achieve on her own. When she puts her brush on the canvas she feels as though she can do anything and create anything and in a way it calms her.

Image
[Chiyo]
Chiyo had a very rough and stressful childhood. Her parent’s expectations, the important school tests, her trying her hardest to reach her parent’s expectations. It was just extremely stressful for her. Her only outlet for all these stressful and frustrating circumstances were video games. Chiyo would always see her older brother play video games and she was instantly fascinated and amazed. The first time she laid her hands on one of the controllers everything in the world just felt right. Over the years she easily rose up in ranks and beat her competitors with little effort, winning many trophies and prize monies. People think that she has fast reflexes and is mechanically talented but in reality she is quick to thinking when it comes to games. Chiyo uses strategic thinking in school and when she immerses herself in consoles as well. She’s also a first rate Chess player and easily beat very high skill cap games. She also enjoy RPGs and JRPGs in her spare time as well. You might find her blabbering on about the plot of the game or some plot device because she is very passionate about her games. Chiyo enjoys talking and is dramatic for some reason. She gets really excited about pending releases of games, and you’ll never hear the end of it. But with all the time she spends on playing her games, her grades are suffering along with her future which makes her question lot of her goals in life.

Image
[Sanae]
Despite possessing an open sense of imagination for stories of romance and crime, Sanae is extremely shy, refusing to interact with anybody except her teachers about her stories because she claims that they are “embarrassing.” However, her stories are rumored to be good enough for her to be called the “Seasonal Writer.” Sanae has an unusual talent of being very observant and being able to analyze things in a very meticulous way. And although being extremely shy, she has a habit of wanting to watch or study people's thoughts and emotions, always wondering what their “stories” are from a safe distance, and very rarely asking questions directly unless interested in the subject. She became used to being alone since her parents, at a young age, has always left her with a sitter. Her and her sitter always read a bunch of picture books and fairytales to keep her mind away from the truth. She spends most of her time at the library reading anything from Nonfiction to Fantasy. Her favorite genre however is mystery. She tends to try to solve the mystery or puzzles as she reads along.

Image
[Maho]
As Maho played her instruments, it became clear to all. The strings were an extension of her soul. Maho was in bliss as the delicate strings quivered in perfect harmony. She found joy in classical music. The fragile beauty of an orchestra working in unison brought her true delight. Maho scoffed at most newer forms of music. It was all a disorderly mess of loud noises and electronic tones. She enjoys a more traditional sound versus that electronic garbage! She spends her time studying all of the great musicians of the past and make compositions similar to theirs. Maho was alone with only music tutors most of her life because of her parents expectations of her. Due to all the expectations, she chose to isolate herself and practice everyday for her parents. Maho grew a cold heart from all isolation she had to deal with. Everyone knows her as the “kuudere princess” from her dark and cold attitude she displays towards everyone. However, when she plays her instruments she plays from the soul and it displays herself as a warm, soothing person.

Image
[Ayaka]
Through good study habits since primary school, Ayaka has been able to acquire a great amount of knowledge and this is very helpful in various areas, subjects, and situations. She is very dependable and reliable when it comes to homework and notes. She’s also the most likely person that her friends goes to for advice on every subject. Ayaka is very intelligent in these situations. Ayaka is also a great person to have an intelligent conversation with among various topics. Despite her being very school-oriented, she is very social and loves meeting new people. She really likes meeting new people because of the more loner style she endures at home. She also enjoys a good flirting session every now and then.

Image
[Hanako]
Hanako is shy and socially awkward since most of her life was spent being home schooled. She was quite unsure on how to approach people until Ayaka introduced herself to Hanako and became close friends afterwards. Although Ayaka is Hanako’s first and only friend, Hanako was able to build up some courage for herself to be able to interact with classmates more easily. Upon seeing MC's valiant attempt at self-introduction despite being a foreigner, she feels determined to make an effort to befriend him.

Minor Character:

Image
[Hana]
MC's "little sister" from his host's family! Hana always wanted to have a big sibling and fell in love with the MC the minute he was announced her big brother for the time he stays. After sometime, Hana keeps mentioning to the main character about the characteristics of her favorite cousin who no longer makes time to see Hana. The main character ponders of who exactly his Hana's "great cousin" from all the stories Hana talks about and misses. Little does the main character knows, she's much closer than to him than he thinks.

Extras:
BGM Samples

If the setting is present-day, then sending paper letters seems unusual. I assume that the person sending a letter wants to hide their identity. Likewise, I assume they can't hide their identity through online communities.

It sounds like could include some simulation elements. Choosing the protagonist's activities might add some gameplay elements. That said... how much of your project will be a story, and how much will be interacting? Will "relationship building" be defined by statistics, or will it be expressed through writing?

I have a bit too much in common with Chiyo. An awful lot of my life has involved looking forward to video games, and then spending many hours playing them. Meanwhile, I've struggled with setting goals, and relating to other people.

Also, I'd like to know more about the protagonist. Is he a blank slate? Does the player determine who he is through choices or stats? Does he have an established personality?

A challenging question: what will set your story apart from other visual novels? It has a lot in common with others which I've read: present day setting, slice of life, one person x several romanceable characters love polygon, and a focus on characters who attend the protagonist's school. State what will make your story distinct. (Maybe the setting will have its own character. Maybe the protagonist will have an interesting attitude. Maybe the pacing will be unusual.) Also, let us know what will make your VN exceptional and memorable.

Off-topic: I know it's not relevant to your story, but I would be interested in seeing the protagonist travel to the Philippines. I want to know more about different nations and cultures.

Thank you so much for all those comments!

It wouldn't be too unusual due to the culture it is in Japan. I'll talk to a few more people about the culture of it although the letters are the main focus of the story!

The game will be more story focused than interacting! The day system is only to help progress the game something similar to the Persona series social link system and possibly day system they have! It wont be 3d of course!

About the characters, I believe due to me rushing to get feedback so early mightve been bad and i overlooked going in depth with the personalities of the girls thank you for pointing that one out!

Theres not much for me to say on that statement since I'd like to stay in secret for a bit but will reveal as much as i can! I'll i can say with the story is that the aim is to make you feel.

On subject of the MC visiting the Philippines, that is extremely debatable due to the MC being apart of a exchange program. I wouldnt count it out but i will consider.

MC backstory, for right now its a secret and for good reason! We will release a smaller verison of his story soon! All of this is for good reason ^ ^ will update the bios to be more detailed!!

1. How do you feel about the potential love interests? Who was your favorite and why?: They all seem a little cliché, but your premise is interesting and the characters seem likable. Maho is probably my favorite because of the music thing - I'm currently studying music history. Plus I've always been a sucker for characters who initially resist romance.
2. Are you interested in playing this game, why and why not?: I'd be interested in playing it since the art is really freaking good and the story seems to have potential.
3. Would you support us when we launch the kickstarter?: I'd support by sharing the Kickstarter with others but I probably wouldn't be able to back it financially.

1. cliché? I could see why and what you mean by that! Hopefully we could make the story and personality click very well!
2. Thank you so much for that!
3. Supporting us just by sharing around the kickstarter helps us out a lot as much as financially backing us

Update!
Currently updated most of the character bios, had them rewritten to something more "interesting". Please continue giving feedback!

I like the new bios! They give a little more insight into the characters.

I'm a lot more interested in Chiyo now than I was before, especially the bit about her also being good at chess because of her strategic skills. And as to her grades suffering because she spends too much time playing video games: Me too, Chiyo. Me too.

Love your designs.

How do you feel about the potential love interests? Who was your favorite and why?

Nanami definitely has hidden depths. A character who is nice 100% of the time can be hard to round out, but she definitely has a sense of drive and personality that makes her feel more human. Sorry, I think I termed that right.

Chiyo strikes me as an entertaining character. I'm not quite sure I know enough about her outside of her love for gaming. In some of the other bios you included a reason behind their current idiosyncrasies. Why does she enjoy gaming so much? Is it escapism from real life issues, or just a means to pass the time and relax from school-related stress?

Sanae also seems to be lacking a motivation. I talk about Hanako a little later...essentially, Sanae seems to have the exact opposite concern I express there. Whereas Hanako has a backstory that supports her shyness and no hobby, Sanae has a hobby but little description as to why she's shy. Unless I misread something...

And we have a kuudere! <3 I absolutely love music, so I'm looking forward to Maho's scenes, for sure. Her disposition is pretty fitting, given her childhood. When I read her bio, I laughed a little. I think real instruments sound better too (although I don't usually record mine).

Ayaka could be a cool big sis or team mom. She's approachable and level-headed, but with a fun side to her underneath the studious half. If I had to order my top three, I'd play Hanako's route, Maho's, and then Ayaka's.

Okay, so Hanako is hands down my favorite. The explanation for why she is socially inept works well, and I can relate to her backstory (I am totally biased, haha). She may benefit from having a hobby as well. That can help her befriend the MC through giving them something to do together.

Are you interested in playing this game, why and why not?

I would. Modern day slice of life is probably my favorite genre outside of scifi (don't make me choose between them!). Are there many scenes that take place outside of high school? Eg. hanging out at a mall or a restaurant

Thank you so much for the feedback!

Am glad you love our designs right now! Along with the feedback of Chiyo and Sanae you brought up, makes really sense so decided to make the change into their bios! As for Hanako, I believe that she most definitely benefit from a hobby but for right now, it wont be mentioned! There will be scenes that do take place outside of school for example: Arcade, Bookstore, Cafe, etc. etc. ;) not gonna spoil too much. A map system was mentioned, if it wasnt it should be edited in right now!!

Update!
Updated story's plot; updated Chiyo and Sanae's bios! Updated Ayaka's Sprite!
