Randal's Route Programming: Over 50% Complete!
Randal's route is over 50% coded! Some CGs have already been implemented (check out the first screenshot below), and the route is shaping up nicely!
An interesting tidbit: Randal's route was the first of the three to be written, running from Oct-December 2018. It also has the most dramatic changes based on your reputation!

Sh00's continuing to work on Randal and Markus' CGs! We can't show you too much, but they're turning out quite strikingly...
Two of the last tracks from our OST are in their final stages, approaching the end of our music journey!
We're also getting commissions done for RE:H's Kickstarter rewards--the wallpapers and postcards specifically! Backers can look forward to some awesome extra art upon release.

Q: What's the estimated word count of the full game?
A: Since more content is still being added, we don't have a firm word count yet. However, we estimate it'll be between 150,000 and 200,000 words. A final count will be posted likely within the next 2 weeks, so keep an eye out!
Q: How many endings will there be?
A: While our final word count estimate has grown, there will be around 17 total endings. Some will be similar, others wildly different, but all will help form a more complete picture of the characters.

Randal's Route Programming: Almost Complete!
As per the title, Randal's route is basically finished with programming (aside from CGs etc.)! Once the final touches are added, next up will be side conversations and epilogue scenes.

The OST is complete! However, our composer has agreed to do an extra ambient track, just to round out the soundtrack a little more!

Q: Where was the point that you decided to develop a visual novel with an emphasis on customization and immersion? And why?
A: The original Red Embrace was something of a fun experiment, combining a "customizable MC personality" with unique responses. Since players seemed to really enjoy it, we kept and (massively) expanded upon the feature for RE:H.
However, RE:H also had another incentive to focus on player immersion. Its core concept is to allow easy self-insertion and role-playing--the difference between "a story that's happening" and "a story that's happening to _you._" A great deal of the emotional impact is based on whether the player can identify with their character.
Q: Will I be forced to play the "bad" endings of each route to unlock the "special" endings for each route?
A: There are, in fact, no "bad" endings--although some endings may be less "happy" to certain players!
However, Heath and Randal's special endings are unlocked simply by completing any of their other endings. Markus' special ending is currently unlocked by seeing the other two special endings. (May possibly change before release.)
Q: This is a question for all our LIs: Imagine you could interview MC - what would be your most important question? What would you like to talk about the most?
A:
Heath: "What's the thing you long for above everything else?"
Randal: "How far will you go for what you believe in?"
Markus: "Why do you continue to endure?"

Randal Poster Update
With the programming completion of Randal's route, here's the belated return of his poster from our Kickstarter campaign!

Side Conversations!
This week, we've been working on editing and scripting the side conversations/scenes in RE:H.
In the game's central sections, the flow goes like this: Common Route Chapter --> Side Convos --> Chosen Route Chapter --> Repeat.
Areas to visit are initially limited, but expand as you progress through the story.
Side conversations are entirely optional; if you want to end most of your free nights by going straight to bed, that's always a viable course of action. (And let's face it, in real life, it's a pretty tempting one.)
However, mingling with your fellow vampires not only gives you the opportunity to learn more about them, but it also plays a significant role in affecting your reputation.
You can chat with multiple people/groups and visit different locations, but you can only have so many interactions per night.
Whether you want to become well-respected enough to be LA's new leader, or just make enough Mavvar friends to be welcomed on the rebel side, allies are important. If nobody likes you by the end of the game, you might just find yourself in a very unpleasant position...
Thus, being a vampire hikikomori is somewhat ill-advised.

A: Yes! In terms of VNs, Dovah has quite an expansive list of ideas (including the yet-unfinished Elegy for Lethe, which may be reworked).
However, in the near future, we'd like to make a 3D or more expansive 2D game that still focuses on narrative, but branches out from the realm of visual novels. It's possible that one or more of these VN ideas will become a 3D or 2D game with additional mechanics!

Timeline update, side convos + CG teasers!
Release Date / Beta Update
As we finally crest into August, progress is still going super well! We’re steadily approaching beta testing, but we don’t have a firm date yet–keep an eye out!
Once we do have a date for beta, we can give a more confident release date, although we estimate it’ll be the end of August. Thanks to the game’s massive size, we’re trying to plan ahead for fixing bugs and potential issues, so we don’t want to set anything in stone too soon!
Side Conversations!
As side convos start to wrap up on the programming end, here's an exciting bit of news: the total length of all the side convos/optional character lore in RE:H is almost 2/3rds of a route!
Of course, you won't be able to see all of the convos in every playthrough. And beyond that, some of them might have new options depending on your route and choices...

Q: Will the romance go deeper in RE:H than it has gone in other games of yours, or it's not what you want to be focusing on on this one in particular?
A: This is a really good--and complicated--question!
The easiest answer is that RE:H is not focused on romantic *tension.* If the player wants to engage one of the mentors romantically, they definitely can--but there aren't many dramatic artificial roadblocks that keep the two apart. In fact, the MC and chosen mentor can enter an informal relationship fairly early on, and romantic overtones/choices are then factored into their following interactions.
Overall, the game is more focused on deeply exploring the characters' natures, creating a stronger emotional bond that works with or without romance on top. Because you can spend more time with the characters and learn more about them, it's likely that the romance will feel "deeper," but that connection also works on a platonic level.
You may learn interesting things through just "friendship" that you can't in a romantic relationship, and vice versa...so consider exploring both paths!

Some very exciting news: Beta testing for RE:H will begin next week!
We're aiming to roll it out on Friday (8/16), which will allow roughly a week for players to send in feedback. The beta won't be a fully complete build--no special endings and some CGs still in sketch phase--but it will contain most of RE:H's content.
Kickstarter backers and our higher-tier Patrons will have access to the beta! We'll send out emails/messages with download links when it starts, and we'll be opening **a specific beta-feedback channel in the AG Discord if you'd like to rant/rave about various RE:H related content. Otherwise, testers can send in feedback via the beta testing form we will attach.
We're still aiming for an end-of-August release for the full game--we'll announce a specific date after we enter the beta period.
