How do I get a project to accept a modified script?

#1 Post by WannurSyafiqah74 »

( NOTE: If you see the reply headers, that means I had to change the title to be more specific of my problem. )

I've tried launching, using the "force recompiling" option, deleting the original script, and yet, I have no idea how to actually playtest if there's no .exe for where my modifications go, of course. I'm not sure if it's because the folder is invalid ( before re-installing RPY, I had it in my Ren'Py folder, which I now deleted - it used to be in my Downloads folder on the D: disk )

If anyone would help me, that would be very much appreciated!

well you can always test and run the actual game just by using "launch" but to completely compile and export it (.exe included), you'd use "build distributions"

Thank you for the tip! But what do you mean by "buying"?

Anyway, I've tried it. Apparently, the .exe I made still thinks I have the default script, when I've modified it! I don't understand??

I don't know what exactly am I doing wrong, and besides... I hate the default script with the nonexistent Eileen due to how frustrating it was to try and fix it before. :/

Typo sorry. *by not buy

I've never come across that issue. There might be something you're missing or you're in the wrong place perhaps

If you have multiple projects, did you make sure you selected the correct one first? Made that mistake more than once myself.

Have you renamed a .rpy file and not deleted the old .rpyc file?

Regarding your answers:

1. There might be something missing ( tell me what I need, cause there's the script. And/or I'm in the wrong place. I put Ren'Py in my D:/ disk's personal folder, as well as its project folder. The files I have are:
log.txt
project.json
and in the game folder:
gui
options
screens
script
as well as copies (.rpyc). I would list more but I don't want to put those in too much detail.

2. I did. I only made one project anyway.

3. No.

well in your first post you mentioned ".exe for your modifications to go" if you click "launch" on ren'py itself, it should reflect any saved changes to the files. you don't launch an .exe until you've built distributions

Huh, alright. But I've launched my projects a few times and that didn't work. So, what should I do then?

Sorry for sounding confused. I just need clarification-

okay listen very carefully

1. open renpy
2. select a project that you are working on
3. click on launch project in big letters

the game should start
