I've finally tracked down and fixed the issue that was causing search to be slow for multiple years now. If you hit the search box in the upper-right, it should work much better now than it did this time yesterday. (The issue was a missing php plug-in that was causing a polyfill to be used - which was not something I thought to look for, as I'm far from a php expert.)
