How do I view the script of a renpy game?

#1 Post by friend » Thu Jul 28, 2022 7:52 pm

It's my own game so I'm pretty sure the script isn't locked or anything. I've deleted renpy a few times and don't have the project in my renpy anymore? I have a download of my older game; is there anyway I can view the script??

It is not clear what is the problem.

Basically, you can view your script files <name_of_file>.rpy in any editor. They are usually stored in game folder of your project.

If you open your script file via renpy launcher, and you don't see your project there, you need to click "preferences" in renpy launcher and change the project directory to the one where your project is stored.

I think what they're saying is they lost the original files and are trying to get them back via an old, released version?

There is no issue if you didn't archive the files, but its slightly trickier if you did.
As to getting the script, I believe that should just open like usual, even from a compiled game. Place the game folder in your regular projects directory and make sure the directory structure matched what renpy expects.
