Hello, I wanted to post about Narrat, a game engine for narrative RPGs. It can handle a lot of visual novel, interactive fiction of narrative ideas in general.
The engine is inspired by **Disco Elysium**, having a similar layout with scrolling dialogue on the right with portraits, and a skills system using **TTRPG dice rolls**. It also has other RPG mechanics like **inventory, quests, achievements...**.
The engine is built using web technologies, written in HTML5 and can export games for the web (on itch.io for example), or built as a desktop app with Electron for Windows/Mac/Linux.
It has a custom scripting language, which originally started with a syntax inspired by ren'py, though it has since become its own thing. The scripting syntax is very easy to write in, but powerful if you need more advanced logic.
There is also the second Narrat Jam starting in July and lasting a month, if you're looking for an excuse to try it.
It's pretty easy to get started, and you can get help on the Narrat forums.
Finally, here are some screenshots of existing narrat games and other random bits of related content.
