What will you expect in a realistic school life visual novel?

#1 Post by danyasilvian »

Hello lovely people 🖤

I’m planning to write a VN regarding a bunch of students socializing and being/making friends (kinda a slice of life + school life genre).

I wonder what would make such a game become meaningful and relatable? What would you expect when you look for a friendships/school life based VN?
Please share some of your opinions and stories to me, it’d help a lot!

Thank you! 🖤

- Sometimes rivalry when it comes to getting best marks, sport or to make relationships.
- At least one teacher who guides you in life/ motivates you and one teacher who f* up your life.
- The type of after school fun which is common at the story's region: cinema, café, game center, chilling at home, ...
- Sport. A student needs time for sport.

Every school has one or more bullies.
Some of my visual novels are at http://www.the-new-lagoon.com. They are NSFW
Poorly done hand-drawn art is still poorly done art. Be a Poser (or better yet, use DAZ Studio 3D) - dare to be different.

- cliques
- dreams for "after high school"
- "the big game"
- "the prom" to include "the prom dress"
- "the play" (maybe the plot of the big drama club production parallels that of the VN)
- evil teacher who hates a student
- fake i.d.'s
- trying to get someone's older sibling to buy you alcohol by waiting out in front of a cumberland farms/ampm
- 18 and under nights at clubs

I read visual novels like these now and then, and it can surprise me when characters actually work on projects together, especially when the tasks are described in some detail. I don't think visual novels should really be about the school assignments - the focus should be more on the characters - but, sometimes, when tasks are realistic struggles that the characters go through, together, the characters can grow closer together and the reader will accept that they're growing closer. Just like when characters go through conflicts that aren't school-related.
