I'm playing around with the Ren'Py Downloader since the project I'm working on is approaching the 2 GB limit for Android.
First off, the documentation seems to focus on mobile, but is there any reason something like this couldn't be used for PC/Mac builds as a way for players to be able to update the game without having to download the full project?
Secondly, I noticed this creates an 'update' folder with a key.pem file and current.json. Should these be built with the project (PC and Mac) and distributed? I get a little wary when it comes to files named 'key' as that usually insinuates something that is mean to be private.

Re: Ren'Py Downloader
The downloader is meant for mobile - to turn one game into another. The updater is meant for pc/mac/linux - it's meant to update an existing game.
The key.pem file is the public key. (IIRC, the file you shouldn't distribute, but should back up, is named private.pem.) It's fine to distribute, and makes sure other people can't make releases of your game.

Ah, I wasn't even aware there was an Updater. Found that bit of documentation now. That's great.
Thanks!
