Re: Dating sim help
You're not being very specific about what your problem is. Your topic says dating sim help, but you are not providing any screens or detailed descriptions about what you need help with. Give people more information and then they can help. Are you saying that you don't understand the dating sim code? Do you not understand the basic functions of Ren' Py?
Re: Dating sim help
okay i'll be blunt i have never attempted to make ANY type of visual nvel before leaving me a basic newbie with no knowledge of anything so yeah any pointers would definatly help!

Re: Dating sim help
Have you fully read/played the renpy tutorial? It explains all the basics for a simple game. Which I suggest you start with if you're a 'newbie'
Also, try downloading 'The Question'. It's a very good example of a simple game. Play it first and then look through the code. Then play it again with the code opened next to it. That way you'll see what line of code does what in the game. It may seem a bit dull, but it's what I did and it helped me out a lot
After that, I suggest you start messing around with renpy a bit. Make an extremely small game which contains pretty much everything you want to try out. If you want a lot of options, make a game that does nothing but give you options and then repeating what options you choose (or something like that). If you want a game with a lot of pictures, try to experiment with that. Basically, like I said before, just mess around with it.
When you feel you know the basics, then you can either start making a real game or start experimenting with more difficult parts (custom interface, the DSE, etc).
If you really don't know how to do something, try looking for it on the ren'py site or here in the forum. A lot of people have come before you and I bet there's someone out there who encountered the same or a similar problem
If you can't find it, ask
But be clear about what your problem is so that people know exactly what you need help with (a detailed description of what you want; say what goes wrong and include the bit of code and the error message). Otherwise, they won't be able to help you.
Oh! And try to start small with your first game. If you don't have any experience at all, making a game with 10 endings, 8 characters and a custom interface will probably be a bit too ambitious. At the beginning it may all seem great, but after having worked on it for a while and encountering problems (or something you don't know how to do) at every corner will be very, and I mean VERY tedious.
And well, those are my two cents!
Xx

Re: Dating sim help
Hmm.. I dunno, from what I just read about it, it seems like a good first game
2 characters, a plot with two endings. Sounds pretty doable and not at all to ambitious.
Besides, it really all depends on what type of person you are.
Who knows? Maybe you are one of those people who can handle big-ass projects while trying to figure out how to do stuff as you go along.
But, since most people aren't like that, it's usually a good advise to start small.
Your DreamGate really seems like a good and interesting game
Go for it!

Re: Dating sim help
would anyone wanna help me with the game?
Re: Dating sim help
Always depends on what kind of help you're looking for (art/script/music/etc). Though you could definitely create a topic on the WIP forums and recruit people to help you :D
