Asu no Arashi: Recruiting Character Artists

#1 Post by Enigma » Tue May 25, 2010 9:11 pm

I know that I already have a topic for the mecha art, but I though that not mentioning I need a character artist was a blunder.

the basic story line is as follows

A city ruined by the darkness of science, and a man who regrets his life wanders through the squalor of this world, and woman pursued by fate, together they will smash destiny. A blood red threat impeads their path, an army of steel clothed in lies. The power of their combined spirits is the force that open the way.

I'm probably being too vauge, here is a more conventional summary. However, if your looking for conventional writeing, I'm not the best choice.

The main character is a boy named Zepp, who lives in a city that has no cable, internet, or even radio from stations outside the city. This leads to the cities nickname, the city of static. Zepp hates the city, and wishes for a tommorrow outside. Enter Nia, who seems to have an entire para-military force chaseing her. Completely dumbfounded by the situation, and desperate to save his own life, he agrees to gattai (combine) with her, and the pitch-black mech named Arashi is born.

one thing, I have absolutely no money, so I can't pay anyone anything

Perhaps I was wrong to ask for the mecha designs first. I'd now like to ask for character designs. Some of the characters themselves are plot twists, so I'll reveal who I can.

Zepp Luftlin: I'm thinking he should look like a younder version of this picture of Lordgenome Image . He is a bit of a pessimist and a skeptic. He's also cold at times. Though like any dynamic character he changes over the story. He pilots Arashi. A black mech with the ability to break anything, which usually ends up causing massive property damage.

Nia: She's quick to point out when someone messes up, or does somthing right. A kind of voice of reason at times, as opposed to Ekiso who will intergect his idea but not enforce it, she make sure everyone is listening. She co-pilots Arashi, and dosen't care much about property damage caused during the fights.

Ekiso: He's the groups straight man. He thinks much deeper than the others before acting. He pilots a mech, but I can't reveal it's name yet.

Hisui: Ekiso's partner. Her entire motivation is to knowing everything. She belives Zepp's fighting style (which often throws logic to the wind) is interesting and joins up. She co-pilots the as of unnamed mech.

Kaima: He's that guy among your friends who you can't count on to bring a fishing pole to a lake. He's optimistic, and cares even less than Zepp about logical combat strategy. He pilots Ryusei, which is able to control fire (and is constantly on fire, even in space and underwater.)

Yuri: She's bounlessly confident in her (limited) ability. She proclaims herself leader of the main characters, and does poorly (usually just repeating what Zepp says). Though she still belives she is a great leader.

Xenova: he's the leader of the Crimson Order's (evil organization) mech pilots. He's a bit sarcastic about the traditions he's bound too (such as always having to charage an opponet with a crime so the Crimson Order will seem in the right.). He's prone to rambleing. He pilots another black mech called Shinya, which seems to have Arashi's ability.

Atonement: Xenova's partner, she is basicly a lifeless shell, and can't do anything (literaly) but fight in Shinya. Xenova explains this as extreme mental conditioning.

Cygn: he's basically a jerk. He's cocky and a coward. He also has a habit of not keeping his word, and useing guns in addtion to his mech Revolver.

Remorse: due to mental conditioning, she belives she loves Cygn (mental conditioning seems to make you a flat character.)

Invera: She's cold blooded and calculating. This puts her at odds with Zepp, who often is unpredictable and disregards his "0%" chance of victory. Despite this, she has a bit of a big sister side towards Vengence. She pilots Azure Gaze, which controls water in all three states.

Vengence: mentally, Vengence is still a child, and claims to hate piloting (which leads Zepp to call her a hypocrite.). She co-pilots Azure Gaze.

Alright, there are a few more, but as I said, these characters are in and of themselves plot twists.

I;m sad, it's been about three weeks since I posted this, and not a single reply. I'm about 2/3 done with the story now, and I have about 35,000 words last time I checked, but still, no artist.

If all else fails, you can always submit your script to beastiewolf's contest and hope you win. Then her team will make your VN for you.

May I show you this one? I really love mecha that I couldn't sit idle reading this thread.

A black mech that could smash everything into bits and turn anything into dust. Equipped with all kind of weaponry; gatling gun, satellite interception missile, or gigantic drill and rocket punch that every men always dream of. I hope you like it.

Cool picture. The only real thing I have to say is the actual Arashi carries no weapons, but it can literally break anything (even abstacts like ideas and destiny). Though, I'm not sure if you were drawing Arashi. Though I really do like the picture. Wow, now that I re-read my character descriptions, I can honestly say every character has changed over the course of the story.

Although you might not be able to draw well, it might help you if you could sketch out some images for people to check out.

Unyuu~ So does this kinda-sorta have some influences from Gurren Lagaan? ...or a lot, maybe~?

But you know, almost having the script done is a big plus for artists.

I cannot draw at all. A (advanced level) stick figure is the limit of my ability.

@Enigma:
Thanks. And yeah, I didn't really draw Arashi since I never see the Arashi itself... and the rest of the characters. I just make whatever cross my mind. And Arashi could break even abstract thing and idea? Then Arashi must be a god robot (like Rah-Xe-Phon) or perhaps Ideon.

BTW, if you don't mind, I could be your artist. Since I really love robot too much to ignore this thread ^_^

@ LUVER thank you. I think (not sure anymore) that Samu-Kun volunteered to draw Arashi, but I do need some one to do the characters and the other mechs. However, looking at it there are so many mecha I need, that one artist probably wouldn't be willing to do all of them. The way I see it, it would make less sense for the mechs to look simalar than it would for them all to look vastly different, so having differnt artist draw different mechs would work out in the end. If you really are interested please send me a pm and I'll get you a complete character list. I'm going to say again that in total there are 12 mechs, and 14 characters (well 12, I'm counting the alternate outfits Ekiso and Zepp wear as differnt characters, and the clothing change is an extremly significant moment.)

The premise still sounds pretty cool, even though I kind of want to know more about the story. As promised, I'll deliver a mecha to you some time soon.

Just to make sure though, I'll put it on the record that I'll post a preview picture here by July 5th at the latest to prove that I'm working on something...

Well, I'm feeling better now. All I need to do now is make sure I can do my share of the work. I'm finally seeing the game's completion approaching.

Because I would have been lying otherwise:

That's the Arashi's head. The deadline to finish the entire mecha is Sunday, Jul 11.

Wow! That looks really cool. On another note, a progress report, I've moved into putting the finishing touches to the script.

July 6th, progress report, I just realize how big of a mistake I made. Due to a typo, I've ended up with a mech named Arashi (Storm) rather than a mech named Ashita (Tommorow) it helps even less that I like Arashi better and have decided to leave Arashi as the name. I looked through the script, and well, it dosen't make much difference.
