I think it's a great idea, you sort of give your fanfic a meaningful presentation and in essence end up with a visual novel (although choiceless) of your own. This one is completed:

Anyway, I really like the idea. I always found fanfics to be a bit boring, mainly because you had to know the characters, but also because it was so hard to imagine what it all looks like. This is a neat idea, and it's a really enjoyable experience.
Ren'Py (and other engines) could probably do this kind of thing as well, so maybe that's also something that can be used to promote VN engines - give your fanfic a nice presentation.
