Re: Anime vs Western VNs art styles
It honestly depends mainly on the artstyle in question. I don't have a particular preference if it's excuted well. But things I don't like to see are: blatant fanservice outfits that no rational person would ever step 2 feet out of the house wearing (especially on extremely young looking charcters.....

Re: Please help!!
The way to fix it is figure drawing, figure drawing and more figure drawing. The pose is too stiff, the fundamentals have to be down before proceeding onwards to the detail and shading.

Re: Please state your preference
The one-point perspective makes it look almost like an advertisement to me. You could make the heavily stylized look work if you are going for a certain feel, like those videos in Fallout with the Vault Boy giving you instructions or Extend TV from Zanki Zero. However, it gives it a simplified carto...

Re: Package RenPy Games So It Is Not a Folder When Unzipped?
It's impossible to package the build with *only* an icon since it requires a data folder. The icon is merely the .exe file like most videogames. You need to add the file extensions you want to either pack or remove in the bottom of options.rpy. Usually you only need to pack .rpyc and remove .rpy and...

Re: I Don't Feel Smart Enough to Make a Visual Novel
"Don't have the brain power" is not really a good way to frame it. More like "need to learn more about X". You can always learn about how to do something if you try hard enough, assuming you are a normal human. There are certainly people with unusually high brain power, but those...

Re: [Kickstarter Live] Turmoil of the Seven [Sci-fi][Drama][Action][Fantasy]
I remember seeing this on Kickstarter last year. 35k is still quite a chunk of change to ask strangers for to finance your game - however, I haven't played your demo, so maybe it's even better than I'm imagining and you'll get a lot of people interested. No, I definitely agree. For an EVN that is a...

Re: Character/Sprite Artist wanting to improve! [UPDATED!]
I agree, your art has improved. The new character sprites have a Kingdom Hearts vibe to them in terms of the proportions, compared to your older ones. I like it... it's different from the norm and would fit a game with a lighter tone to it. I wouldn't rule out using those "anime esque" spr...

Re: [Question] How do we build expansions or DLCs for our existing Visual Novel?
You can make separate game archives that can be dragged and dropped (or in the case of Steam, downloaded) into the game folder. You just have to separate the game into folders by episode, in subfolders of the game folder. You can then make the game check to see if a particular file from those archiv...

Re: School Shooting VN
If you want to explore the topic in a "good" way, then this is not that game. It doesn't appear to have very much commentary about the gun control failures that allow school shootings to happen, just turns it into an event that is used for shock value. I personally think it's impossible to...

Re: "Pointless" choices
Usually it's pretty obvious when pointless choices are there, because you don't see a major change in the narrative. I can understand the necessity for them to be there, because gamers generally don't like long drawn out sequences of talking, but that doesn't stop it from feeling lazy when it doesn'...

Re: Why does Ren'Py create image files for GUI?
I'm guessing it's for ease of swapping out or editing GUI elements for people who aren't that great at programming Screen Language.

Re: Rukuai's Art Thread
Your proportions are good, and your female character(s) are definitely visually appealing. I think the main issue here is simply the shading, it doesn't feel like it's blended well enough, and the shadows are "off". You are trying to give the effect that the guy wearing the cap has his fac...

Re: Miza's Drawings
The designs look solid for the most part. I think the nose-less style could be an issue if you're trying to give your art mass appeal though. Personally, I think it makes the art look "cheaper" overall because it reminds me of a quick flash animation style and the faces just feel less deta...

Re: Western vs. Eastern Storytelling
In terms of what I've seen, Western storytelling tends to have more heroic protagonists who lead the charge of the story and their group, and unlock the strength within themselves. While Eastern storytelling has everyman type protagonists who get dragged into conflicts and only get through by trusti...
